New Man Writing Contest

The New Man Writing Contest is a yearly prose and poetry writing  contest powered by The New Man Movement, a body of young vibrant minds  that desire a change in society that begins with the youths with the believe that writing has a power of changing men from the old to the  new. The New Man Writing Contest is targeted at the  promotion of literary works by combing through the forest of literary virginity amongst students of secondary schools in Africa.

The New Man Writing Contest Committee

This committee, constituted yearly with a chairman coordinates the collection and general logistics that concern the writing contest. The works from the contest are subsequently published in The New Man Writers Series with a launching programme. Participants are also entitled to winning cash prizes in the top three positions and certificates plus general consolation prizes.

The New Man Movement hereby calls for Submissions into the third edition of her annual writing contest.




In its third year, The New Man Writing Contest is targeted at the promotion of literary works by combing through the forest of literary virginity in students of secondary schools, exploring the diversities of culture and personalities in Africa and keeping the bond of unity in creativity.

The 2018 edition would be hosted in honour of H.R.M, Oba Adedokun Abolarin Omoniyi, Aroyinkeke 1, the Orangun of Oke-Ila Orangun, Osun, Nigeria.



Submission Modalities.

Note: Entry fee is FREE

1. This contest is open to ALL STUDENTS of Secondary Schools IN AFRICA.


2. Entries should be sent via mail to newmanwritingcontest@gmail.com. You may also submit via this link



3. The biography of the writer should be contained below the body of the mail (preferably after the submission) in no less than 100 words.


4. Length of submissions


a. PROSE: Maximum, 8000 words.

b. POETRY: Maximum, 200 lines.

c. DRAMA: Maximum, 5 Acts.

 



This Contest is open from November 18th, 2017- March 21st, 2018.



All winners would be announced on this platform and ALL Media Partner Platforms.

Prizes:



1. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners would be published in The New Man Writing Series.


2. A Certificate of participation in the contest will be issued.

3. Other submissions shall be published on online literary blogs, international journals and websites.

4. Top prose and drama works would be adopted into movie scripts (courtesy KBLAQ TV)


Judges


Brigitte Poirson
Brigitte Poirson (Chief Judge)

A former language teacher in France and university lecturer in Plymouth and Exeter, UK. , Brigitte Poirson is also an award-winning writer. She has published seven books in French and English, and has also been included in numerous magazines and anthologies. She now devotes her time promoting young African writers by editing and publishing anthologies and sponsoring poetry contests in Nigeria.





James Coburn
James Coburn is an Oklahoma poet, photographer and journalist. His first book of poetry, "Words of Rain," was a 2015 finalist for the Oklahoma Book Awards. His work has appeared in numerous anthologies. A long­time journalist for The Edmond Sun, Coburn is a 2013 inductee of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame.








Uzo Nwamara
Uzo Nwamara is a poet, playwright, novelist, broadcaster, editor and publisher. He studied English and Literature at Abia State University, Uturu and University of Port Harcourt. He contributed/­co-edited 'Rivers of Treasure' and co-authored 'Elechi Amadi: A Quintessential Giant.' His play 'Dance of the Delta' is on the reading list of universities and colleges. His works have appeared on radio, anthologies, newspapers, journals, magazines and online platforms. He is the current Chairman, Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Rivers State Chapter.






Brian Kasaine is a creative writer, focusing on storytelling and poetry. He is an affiliate of the Writers Guild Kenya and works with Personal Development Challenge, a mentorship organization aiming to develop personal and corporate potential. Brian has authored the short eBook ‘Dead End? Bury It And Move On’ and his latest masterpiece ‘Around The Campfire’. The latter is a collection of short stories and poetry, exploring the themes of love that makes love itself envious; inspiration that inspires a modification of motivation and psychology to become better; heartbreaks that break the door handle to the doctor’s room for a stitch; and humanity that draws hearts back to what really matters- humanity. He performs his poetry once in a while, and a number of them have been published by NonDoc, Zogoa Kenya and The Co-operator; a school magazine for The Co-operative University of Kenya.
