My face when my mom wakes me up at 4 a.m., saying it's 7 a.m.'
You’ve probably come across that meme before—the one with a funny-looking face, perfectly capturing how it feels to be woken up much earlier than expected. As amusing as it is, maybe mom’s just calculating all the time you’ll spend getting ready!
Now, what if I told you the Holy Spirit works similarly? As the third person in the Trinity, the Holy Spirit’s role is to teach, guide, and direct us in all things. Just like a parent might wake you earlier so you’re prepared for the day, the Holy Spirit nudges us ahead of time, even when we might not understand the reason.
Think about it: when you ask the Holy Spirit for help or guidance, that nudge often comes as a persistent reminder, tugging at your heart until you respond. It’s like setting an alarm to wake up, only to keep hitting snooze because you’re not ready to move. Eventually, the alarm’s annoying persistence forces you out of bed. The Holy Spirit’s guidance works the same way—gently reminding us of what needs to be done, and when we ignore it, we’re just snoozing on the guidance that’s being offered.
It might sound surprising, but the Holy Spirit can even help with simple decisions, like what to wear. You might not understand why you feel prompted to pick a particular outfit, but later, you realize it was perfect for the day’s events. In hindsight, you're grateful for that subtle leading.
The same goes for the little things. Have you ever felt the urge to bring along something as random as a notepad or a bottle of water, only to realize later how much you needed it? When you follow that inner prompting, you’re often thankful. When you don’t, you’re left with a sense of regret, knowing that nudge was trying to prepare you.
This reminds me of a powerful point David Yonggi Cho made in his book The Holy Spirit, My Senior Partner. He explains how believers can't do without the Holy Spirit, describing the Spirit as the solution to every problem in the world. And if we want to face life’s challenges equipped and prepared, we need the Holy Spirit as our guide.
The truth is, life as a believer is much easier when we rely on the Holy Spirit. With the Spirit’s guidance, we’re never caught off guard—things don’t just happen to us; we’re prepared for them. The question is: are you ready to partner with the Holy Spirit?
