The Consecration of the Believer in a Corrupt Generation: Gospel Today Devotional - 8th March, 2023

In today's lesson, we shall be looking at the life of one who was not the biological son of Eli but was also under his leadership and tutelage and must have also seen the things the biological sons of Eli did. The passage of scripture under consideration is seen below:

The Consecration of the Believer in a Corrupt Generation: Gospel Today Devotional - 8th March, 2023

"Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord: for men abhorred the offering of the Lord. [18] But Samuel ministered before the Lord, being a child, girded with a linen ephod". ( 1 Samuel 2:17-18)

It is very easy for a child to learn from what he sees and hears, right? It amazes me sometimes to see children who abuse people just because they heard it from someone. They are also children who pray just because they see a man come out each morning to walk around the room, kneel and nod his head while he utters some words. Many times, by our actions, we model certain things to children. Each time you see a child misbehaving, if that child is yours, you should ask yourself what you have been modeling to him. If he is not, check to see what the people around him have been doing. The things you discover will amaze you. Praise God!

Though children mostly act based on the negative things they hear or see, I am surprised that Samuel was not that kind of child. The scripture in verse 17 of our anchor text says that the sin of the young men was very great, that is, the sons of Eli but even at that (vs 18), Samuel didn't look at them but ministered before the Lord, being a child, girded with linen of ephod.

Being a child, he ministered before God not minding what others did. He maintained his consecration even if he was in the midst of people who caused God's people to abhor his offering. This is how we are to live as believers, that although we live in a crooked and perverse generation, our consecration will be to God alone. God blesses his word in our hearts. Amen.

Thought for the Day: Do not let your consecration to God dwindle seeing that you may find yourself amidst crooked and corrupt people.
