The Nature of Pride


The Language of Babylon is Pride
1st Timothy 6:4, James 4:6, Revelation 3:17

There is a variation of pride today. It is called Humble Pride. This is a kind of pride that pretends to be modest (Isaiah 3:16-17, Proverbs 11:2, Proverbs 15:29, 

There is no contention where there is no pride (Proverbs 13:4)

Humility should however not make others take you for grabted. Christians shoukd bit refuse to stand up for their rights in the name of humility.

What is the Nature of Pride?

  • Pride says I have everything and I have need of nothing (Revelations 3:17)
  • Pride always seeks respect (Esther 3:5)
  • Pride says "I am better than anyone else" (Luke 18:11)
  • Pride says "Look at my achievements" (Daniel 4:30)
  • Pride says "I am above the law of God" (2nd Chronicles 26:16)
  • Pride says "You don't expect me to get my hands dirty"
  • Pride says "Who is God that I should obey Him?" (Exodus 5:2)
  • Pride says "I am always correct" (Job 33:9)
  • Pride says "I will assume the position I deserve" (Isaiah 14:12-17)
  • Pride says, Look at me, how great I am (Ezekiel 28:17-78)
  • Pride demands worship (Acts 12:22-23, Psalm 10:2)

How does God deal with the Proud?

  • God brings down the prideful/proud (Psalm 18:27, Isaiah 2:12)
  • God resists them (1st Peter 5:5, Luke 1:52)
  • God makes them low (Proverbs 29:23)
  • God brings them to experience destruction and shame (Proverbs 11:2)
  • God abases them (Matthew 23:12)
  • God puts them in their traps (Psalm 10:2)

 

How to Deal with Pride

  • Repent  (Revelations 3:19)
  • Humble thyself and submit to authority (1st Peter 5:5-6)
  • Put trust in God instead if idolising meb (Psalm 40:4)
  • Learn to serve others Luke 14:10, John 13:13-16
  • Learn the benefits of hunility (James 4:10)
