Authority is the Greek word "exugsia". That is, it means the power to influence. It means a person has the ability to act on behalf of someone else.
Who is The Authority For?
The authority given by Christ is meant for every believer.
Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set [him] at his own right hand in the heavenly [places],
Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
God has given the authority to Christ and in turn, Christ has handed over that authority to the believer.
What Do We Have Authority Over?
- We have authority over principalities, powers, might, any name and all things on this Earth. The Bible in Ephesians 1:21 says that we have authority which is "far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come. Verse 22 also confirms that all things are under his feet, and gave him [to be] the head over all things to the church,
- We have been given authority over death. 1 Corinthians 15:26 rightly says that the last enemy which shall be destroyed is death.
- We have authority over thoughts that are in opposition to God's will for us. We find this in 2nd Corinthians 10:3-5 says, though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh because the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
As believers, we are to take charge of our thoughts, of our day and take charge of the earthly elements too. Never reply a thought with a thought, instead, speak out. Resist such thoughts with the word of God!
How Do We Wield Our Authority?
Ephesians 6:12-14 says that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual wickedness. Thus, we are obliged to take up the whole armour of God, in order to withstand in the evil day, and be empowered to stand. Our response of faith is to stand battle ready.
How Do We Stand?
- By the word.
In Luke 4:18-19, we read that the Spirit of the Lord upon a man anoints him to preach the gospel to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, preach deliverance to the captives, recover the sight of the blind, and set at liberty them that are bruised, and as well, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. The gospel preached here is the greatest tool a believer has which is the word of God. We should know this truth.
- By the spirit.
1Co 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another [divers] kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
Manifestations of the spirit happens when we engage in spiritual warfare in prayers. As believers, we are to pray to discern. Learn to write down the thoughts that come up in the place of prayers so you can focus better and so you can know God's thoughts to you.
- By the hope of salvation
1Thessalonians 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
As believers, we should endeavor not to power negative words by speaking them, instead, speak the truth of God's word. Get into your warfare from the place of victory. You are not fighting for victory, you are fighting from victory.
- Magnify God Above Every Situation
Psa 115:18 But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD.
The devil is mad when a believer continuously praises God. Do not carry the situation you are experiencing at the moment but instead, praise God at all times. Rejoicing brings down walls of oppositions.
