Faith So Little: Gospel Today Devotional - 3rd November, 2023

The scripture records in the book of Hebrews that the means through which we can please the Lord is faith. The scripture also in the same book of Hebrews made mention of heroes of faith, and how that through faith they were able to wrought many mighty works. By faith we know that the things that be were formed out of the things that be not. By faith we were saved, by faith we pray as though we see physically the one to whom we pray. Faith gives substance to that which we cannot see, and makes it look as though we see them vividly. The call therefore to being a son is a call of faith, and into a life of faith.

Faith So Little: Gospel Today Devotional - 3rd November, 2023

That said, suppose someone promised to get you a thing, probably a long distance cousin whom you haven't met before. It calls for every reason to doubt, doesn't it? That's because you may not be able to fully ascertain whether or not he can get you that which he promised. While thinking about that, you came to understand that he had the financial capacity to do that which he promised, and although you may not have seen him, that created an assurance in you that he would surely fulfil his promise, right?

The same way it is with God. While many people may not see him until there's a physical manifestation to them just like Thomas did to Jesus, it is expedient to know that as believers, we work by faith, and not by sight. Hallelujah! Let's look into the passage of scripture below to know the mind of God for us today. Shall we?

"And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. [6] And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you." (Luke 17:5,6).

The scripture above gives an insight into that which happened between Jesus, and the apostles, that is, the twelve. They had made a request from the Lord Jesus. This however may be due to their stay with him, and getting to see all the things he did. How he healed many, delivered the oppress, raised the dead, spoke to the fig tree that it became withered. What exactly was the request they made? That the Lord should increase their faith. Amazing, right? How could the Lord have done this? To tell them something more than he already did or to show them something more than he already did? Could he have done that by having an impartation service for them? What really were they expecting? And how did Jesus grant this request? Let's see in the next paragraph.

If you read through the passage of scripture clearly, you would know that the Lord Jesus didn't say to pray harder, or to study more, and of course faith can be increased through this means. Faith comes by hearing the word of God, doesn't it? Very true. But then he said something which I would like you to take note of. Are you still following?

Jesus in answering their question, that is increasing their faith, told them that what they needed was not necessarily an increase in faith, or a more bigger faith, but that they put to work that which they already had. He said, even faith as little as that of a mustard seed can do the impossible. It's as though he was saying, you don't need an increase in faith, you only need faith so little as that of a mustard seed; even that will do the impossible.

You do not need an increase in faith to be saved, even that little faith can save you. You do not an increase in faith to be healed, that little faith can heal you. The woman with the issue of blood who touched the hem of Jesus' garment is a witness to this truth. Dear brother, and sister, children of the most high God, how it is we will save ourselves the stress of wanting to have an  increase in faith, but channeling even the little faith we have in the Lord to him , and then see the Lord work for us. The Lord help us all, and may these words sink deeply into our hearts. Amen.

Thought for the Day

What you need is not very big faith or an increase in faith, but faith so little in the one who can do the impossible; even such faith can move mountains.
