God is Holy: Gospel Today Devotional - 9th December, 2023

KNOWING GOD SERIES

The scripture as it were contains so many things about God. It tells us who he is, and what he can do, what he has done, and what he will do. It is on the basis of this understanding about God as revealed in scripture that our faith in him is sustained. The scripture as it were has been written for our consumption that by reading, and meditating on it, we may get to fully know all that has been freely given to us by God, and how we are to appropriate these things as believers in our lives. Praise God! The Lord through this series has been opening our eyes to quite a number of things concerning himself, and I am sure you have been blessed just as I have been blessed as well. It is just my prayer that moving on, we will get to see more wondrous things in his word. Amen.

God is Holy: Gospel Today Devotional - 9th December, 2023

The series has featured attributes such as God's love, mercy, patience, forgiveness, and so on. And each time, lessons applicable to the believer in his walk with God, and his work for him have been drawn out from these teachings. One other thing that should be known about God, and becomes a must that it is known is that God is holy ( this in other words means that there's no defilement in God). In simple terms, when we say God is holy, it means God is extremely pure, sinless, guiltless, and without any iota of defilement. Hallelujah. Isn't this something to be glad about? That you, and I serve a God who cannot be accused for being impure. This should be to us a thing of joy.

However this is not just the case, knowing that God is holy is not enough. The whole idea as given by the Lord about this series is not just to tell us that God is this, but to teach us how to live like him here on earth, to put on display these unique traits as seen in God our Father, and to enhance our knowledge of him such that it becomes our experience. Glory to GOD! The passage to be considered in today's lesson is seen below,

"But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; [16] Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy" ( 1 Peter 1:15,16).

First from this scripture, we have to understand that we have been called ( but as he which has called you), but called from what into what? From darkness into light. We have been called from death into life. And the scripture says that as a result of the call, there's a change in man, a translation from old to new (2 Corinthians 5:17). That is the very first thing to note. That you, and I have been called. Another thing to note is the person who has called us, and that which defines him. Are you following? We have been called to live our lives unto God that we may offer up spiritual sacrifices unto him (1 Peter 2:5), and to show forth his praise (1 Peter 2:9).

We have to understand as well what defines this Supreme Eternal being called YAHWEH who has called us unto himself. The scripture says that he who has called us is holy, meaning that he is extremely pure, sinless, guiltless, and without any defilement. This is what defines him as the God he is. His words are pure (Psalm 12:6), he is not a God of iniquity, he does not think evil. He is holy. Everything about him, why? Because that is who he is. That is his nature. He cannot hide it neither can he fake it. God is sinless. God is without defilement. God is guiltless. God has no trace of iniquity in him not even a dot.

This is the kind of God we serve. The one who has called us is holy, and knowing this, what is expected of us? The text we are considering tells us. It says that you, and I are to be holy in all manner of conversation whether audible or not, in other words, it says to be holy in all that we do. Why? It says because he who has called us is holy. That is the reason. We are to be holy because that is the nature of the one who has begotten us. It says there should be no defilement in us, no guilt, no sin, and that we should live a life of purity just as he who as called is holy. May we live our lives before God in all purity, and guiltlessness. Amen.

Thought for the day: Just as God is sinless, guiltless, and pure, you as his son are to live even as he lived. He says to be holy because he who is your Father is holy.
