As Much as Lieth in You: Gospel Today Devotional - 3rd August, 2022

It is important that as believers, we live a peaceful life, that is, a life that demonstrates perfect calmness. A life that reveals Christ and his nature to people. The people around us should through the way we act come to see the beauty and blessedness of being a Christian. 

In the epistle of Paul the apostle to the believers in Rome, he admonished them to do certain things, particularly in the twelfth chapter of the book of Romans.

Amongst the many things Paul the apostle told them was the fact that they needed to live peaceably with people. Let's see the verse of scripture below,

"If it is possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men". (Romans 12:18).

Knowing how important to live a peaceable life ( that of perfect calmness), he gave this exhortation. His aim I believe was to send a very strong message across to them to enable them to see the importance of living such a life.

His admonition was not just that they lived peaceably with other believers alone, but as it were, with *all men* (believers and unbelievers alike). Why? So that people who see them, and stay around them will glorify God in them.

It is possible the people you stay around may not cherish peaceful living, they may do things that may not go well with you, but still, if ever you can, of which I believe you can, make the effort to live peaceably with them. This was perhaps that which the apostle Paul had in mind.

As believers today, his epistle to the Roman believers, is very much applicable to us, that as much as we can, and as it is within our power to do so, we should maintain a perfect life of calmness with all men so that through us, they may get to see, and glorify God. The Lord grants us the grace to live peaceably with all men.

Daily Nugget: You should eek as much as you can to live peaceably with the people around you to the end that they may see and glorify God in you.

Prayer: Help me to live peaceably with all men, dear Lord. Amen.
