Many times, we become too familiar with not just the word of God but with the people through whom we hear the word. The more we see them, and listen to them, the more familiar we become with them, and with their messages that we no longer are blessed by such messages. We leave with the attitude, "Is he not the one? What other thing can he say to bless me?"
Isn't it something to be worried about when we listen to a man of God teach and preach, maybe our Pastors in Church or sometimes even someone we are seeing for the first time that we do not find reasons why those messages should bless us? And most times, we leave the place without being blessed.
There's something as believers that we can learn from the saints at Thessalonica, the fact that they didn't get familiar with those who brought the message to them, and as a result, were at all times blessed by the messages they proclaimed. Let's take a look at the verse of scripture below,
"For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe". (1 Thessalonians 2:13).
The apostle Paul in addressing the saints at Thessalonica commended them for a very notable attribute they displayed. The fact that they didn't at any time look down on them or saw the messages they gave as that which came from ordinary men but that they received as the word of God.
First, he started by telling them that of a truth he thanked God without ceasing for them, why? Because each time they received the word of God which they heard of them, they received not as the word of men (not as though it was their message, not as though they were teaching of themselves), but as it is in truth the word of God, and as a result of this, the word worked effectually in them.
This is a message to us as well, that each time we receive the word from whoever the Lord chooses to bless us with his word, we are to receive the word not as though it came from man, but as it is the truth, from God, and by that, the word would work in us effectively. May this word work in us, and abide in us of a truth.
Daily Nugget
Each time you're privileged to receive the word of God, do not do that as though it is from man, but as it is of a truth, from God, that you may be blessed thereby.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be blessed by your word and to receive gladly whomever you send to bless me through your word at every point in time in Jesus' name. Amen.
