7 Benefits of Joining a Bible Study Cell Group

I've noticed something over time it seems as though there is a difference in pattern in the way the apostles in the scriptures and believers now relate with one another. The cord of fellowship doesn't seem to be there anymore. In the Christianity of today, you would have heard believers say things like "I'm in a me and God only relationship" however this is not God's plan for the believer.

It's God's will that believers are in small Bible cell groups where they can be properly fed and nourished with God's will and purpose for our lives. It is God's will that we pray together, study together, love one another, and in times of adverse situations strengthen one another. If everybody is functioning well as a cell then we can rest assured we can function well as a whole.

What is Bible Study Cell Groups?

Bible study groups or church cell groups are small units of believers coming together in 2 to '20s for the sole purpose of getting to know and expanding our understanding of God's word, prayer, and effectiveness in ministry. Members of a church cell group can be members of your local church or members of the body of Christ at large. Joining a Bible Study Group is going to have an amazing impact on your life and ministry.

Jesus didn't call Believers to be independent of one another rather he called us to help one another, love one another and forgive one another. (Philippians 2:4)

He also admonishes us to stir each other's gifts. I know most churches have a cell group as a whole which is very important and lovely but everyone agrees that cell groups don't have to be members of your local church only. Smaller groups help you stay connected, track your spiritual growth, and many more.

Here are seven good reasons you should join a church cell group.

1. To learn Christ:

A Bible study group will help you to learn more about your in- Christ realities. You get to understand what Christ has done for you on the cross and its importance to you. In Christ, it is expedient that you understand the love of God to you, and even to the unbeliever.

Paul in his letters will always pray that we realize God's love toward us. (Ephesians 3:17-19, 1:15-20, Colossians 18-11). Knowledge is a very crucial thing in the Christian faith therefore it shouldn't be taken lightly. This and many more are what a bible study cell group offers you.

2. To share your Burdens:

Being a Christian doesn't provide immunity to life challenges. We won't pretend as though we don't go through bad stuff as everyone does, even Jesus didn't promise that. It is funny that he tells us about the exact opposite( John 16:33) but he has assured us of victory before the battle ever started.

We always win here, it's always a win-win situation for the believer. All things work together for our good (Romans 8:28). A bible study cell group allows you to share what you are going through with people that will hold your hands and pray for you in the stormy days (Philippians 6:2). It helps you retain God in your consciousness at all times.

3. To connect with People:

One thing church cell groups also help us with is our networking skills. While this might not be the primary reason for a church cell group, socializing isn't a bad idea after all. You should get to do that with people of like minds. Isn't that amazing?

It's time to get people to get better at their networking skills and be serious with socializing. We don't have to be awkward in social situations. Imagine all those 'communion times' the Bible spoke about. The breaking of bread from house to house.

It's really good, it's something you should look forward to doing(Acts 2:46-47).

4. To preach the Gospel

If you want to be effective in preaching the gospel you need to be surrounded by people who will continually get you hyped about the kingdom's work. (Romans 1:16). I remember one night I woke up and was strolling through Instagram. I was so devastated about all the happenings in my country. As I gently prayed that God will reach them I heard in my spirit I sent you to them.

See, God won't come here to save souls, it's our work collectively as believers.  If we earnestly desire that the world be a better place then we must take soul-winning seriously. ( Mark 16:15)

According to statistics Christians are about 80 million persons in Nigeria making up about 50% of the country's population.

How many are actively involved in preaching the gospel message?

A bible study group or church cell group makes sure you are pumped about God's word and His will -that all men be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). You shouldn't be doing a bible study on a regular and not do this.

Trust me street evangelism is great but it doesn't have to be street at first. The device you have is for the gospel, you are in your office for the gospel. In church cell groups you will learn how to share your faith boldly with unbelievers.

5. Clarity of purpose:

Joining a bible study cell group will help you gain clarity in whatever you want to do. There will be clarity of purpose for you as you study the Bible with other people. Instructions and directions on what to do per time will be given to you. Your discernment will be heightened even as you pray.

6. Effectiveness in ministry:

It's easy to get carried away in church or somehow be left out of the activities in the church even if you don't want to, but it's not so with a small bible study group. You will have to participate. Your views seem respected and honored. You have the privilege of ministering to people also. It makes you aware that you can do all these things too(1 Corinthians 14:26).

7. Checks and Balances:

Nothing sweeter than having your bible study group correct you when you're not on the right path. Sometimes, it looks as though there is nobody to correct us when we are entering into error, when we aren't doing enough and when we are not paying attention. In a Bible study group, you have someone to check on you as well as call you to order.

This and more are great reasons to join a bible study cell group. Do you want to pray about it? or should I convince you that it's God's will for you?

Here are some bible verses that talk about church cell groups.

1. Hebrews 10:24-25.

24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. 26 Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins.

12 Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. 13 You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.

3. Psalm 133:1-2

How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! 2 For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe.
