When you do something wrong and you are beaten for it, and then told that it was for your profit, wouldn't it sound ridiculous to you? How is the beating for your profit? The truth remains that it is for your profit because each time you remember that you were beaten for such a thing, you may not want to do it any longer. Today, we shall be considering the passage of scripture below:
"Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? [10] For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness". (Hebrews 12:9-10)
We have been corrected many times by our earthly parents and each time those corrections came, we gladly obeyed and reverenced them, right? How much more God who is the Father of spirits for so the scripture calls him. Shall we not also be in subjection to him and live? Of course.
Do you know that even the corrections from our earthly fathers only last but a few days? And that they sometimes correct us for their pleasure, and by this, I mean to say they do so to stop themselves from being mad at us for doing wrong. God isn't like that.
He rebukes and corrects us not for his pleasure but for our profit to the end that we might be partakers of his holiness. Do you now see why he is never happy that we err and will never cease to correct us as sons? He wants us to be holy just like him and to be in the wrong wouldn't help us become partakers of his holiness. May the Lord help us to always yield to his corrections, and never to see them as burdensome so that we might become partakers of his holiness indeed. Amen.
Thought for the Day: the rebuke and correction of God each time you err is for your profit to the end that you might be a partaker of his holiness.
