Unashamed of the Gospel by Okeleke Gift Victoria

I still wonder why the unprofitable servant in the Bible went to hide the only talent that was given to him. Was it that, he was not aware of the punishment for doing so? or maybe he just felt the talent was not worth being in his possession.  Never really heard him complain of the number but, rather he complained about giving up all to please his master including self will and desires. Perhaps, the process required to making profit from the talent would take his time and restrain him from doing certain things his flesh desires.

I have realized that this particular illustration in the Bible teaches us about the worth of our Christian Lives and, the reason we must profess it because, that one talent is our ticket to Eternal life.
Many believers today are just like the unprofitable servant in the Bible. They have believed and accepted that Jesus is their Lord and personal savior, yet they find it difficult to keep his commandments . John 10: 27-28 “  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: [28] And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
They appear in his presence everyday but, still sited at the entrance of the narrow way. Still struggling to create a balance between self will and a Spirit led Christian life, which can never be possible. Matthew 6:24 KJV
“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.”
They have not made up their minds to turn down the enticing offers of the world and, uphold the banner of righteousness and holiness. Just as an illustration in the Bible about men lighting a candle stick and putting it under a bushel, so have they hidden their belief from neighbors, friends, colleagues at their work place, and even family members. Maybe out of fear of being ridiculed or forsaken because, they haven’t seen Christ as the ultimate source of help to mankind. They have not believed in his almighty power.
To have true satisfaction in being a Christian, you must be willing to trend the path of reckless abandonment to God. Matt 19:29 “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold.”
To prove that the number of talents the servants were given in that Bible illustration was not the main focus, the servant that was given only two talents didn’t complain or ask the master, why giveth me only two talents, and the other you have given five? Rather, he did business with it and gained double of what was given to him. A true born again Christian does the will of God, no matter the situation. Even in the face of trials, temptations, riches or lack, they are unashamed of the gospel. Rom 8:39 “Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.

He is contempt with God's provisions, patient, diligent in service and hopeful towards God’s promises no matter how long it takes. He acknowledges that he is not of the world and, he has come to stay but, for a short time in the world. Therefore, he can give absolutely nothing in exchange for his soul. Mark 8:36 “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

Such a person is a replica of Christ here on Earth, a burning and shining light that can never be comprehended by the darkness of this world. And is not conformed to the things of this world. Rom 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

A person whom the spirit of God bears witness of that he is indeed a child of God. Matthew 3:17. “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” King James Version (KJV). A person whose character, thoughts and action portrays the nine fruits of the holy Spirit, which are Love, faith, peace, Joy, goodness, meekness, temperance, long-suffering and gentleness.

Being unashamed of the gospel means making Jesus Christ your identity and proving it by the life you live; in your daily activities and, wherever you go. Having passion for unbelievers, and preaching the gospel of Christ to all. By doing this you can achieve a double fold of what was committed into your hands as a servant to God. And at last inherit the kingdom of God, as a son  or daughter of God.
