Early Life

Steve Crown was born Steve Uche Okolo on September 27, 1990. While he hails from Benue State in North Central Nigeria — with some accounts specifying Igede heritage from the Oju/Obi area of the state — he was born and raised in Abuja, in a devout Anglican household.

Music was part of his life from the very beginning: both of his parents sang in their local Anglican church choir, and Steve grew up surrounded by that sound at home. He developed his own passion for music at around age four, and by age eight had joined the choir of St. John's Anglican Church, later becoming part of a youth group known as the Deacon Kids Band.

## Education

Before pursuing music full-time, Steve Crown obtained a Diploma in Law from the University of Abuja, followed by a Higher National Diploma in Office Technology from the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, in Zamfara State. Though he once considered a career in law, his deeper interest in the visual arts and music ultimately shaped the direction of his life.

## Music Career

Steve Crown broke into national prominence with his 2016 hit single **"You Are Great,"** which became a defining anthem across Nigerian churches and beyond. He followed this with **"You Are Yahweh"** (2019), a live performance video that has drawn tens of millions of views on YouTube and became one of the most recognized contemporary worship songs to come out of Nigeria in recent years.

His broader catalog includes "We Wait On You," "Angels Bow," "All the Glory," "Healing Wings," "Hosanna," "Amen" (featuring Joe Mettle), "Imela," "Yesu Na," "Awesome God," "Your Love," "He's Here," "You Alone," "Mighty God," and "Ayaaa," several of which have become staples of Christian worship services across Africa and the diaspora. His 2021 album *Kairos* recorded over a million streams on Boomplay within its first week of release.

He has performed alongside major gospel figures, both within Nigeria and internationally, including Don Moen, Frank Edwards, and Joe Mettle.
