Scene 1

(The scene opens to show an office setting where Sandra just got a job)

HR Officer: Looking at your CV, I must say that you’ve really impressed me and the company is willing to take a bet on your skills. 

Sandra: Thank you very much ma. I’m really grateful. I promise that I will not let you down sir.

HR Officer: You’re welcome. You can resume on Monday. When you come around, I will show you around the office and help you settle down with your colleagues and Mr Thomas who will be your direct boss.

Sandra: Alright ma. That’s absolutely fine. 

HR Officer: You can leave. Please shut the door behind you as you go.

(Stage closes)

Scene 2

(Scene opens with Stella and Hannah talking in the office as the boss, Mr Thomas walks in)

Stella: Hannah, you see In this office, that new lady is not minding her business. Every time, she is always pushing herself towards Oga. I don’t know why she is looking for unnecessary favour and it’s so annoying. 

Hannah: Leave her alone oh. She will soon find what she’s looking for. By the time he uses and dumps her, she will learn her lesson.

Stella: Noooo. I don’t think Oga is like that oh. At least, he has class, but seee… I even heard something confidential that… (looks around to check if someone is coming, leaves desk and proceeds to whisper to Hannah)

Hannah: (screaming loud) Ah! That’s serious oh. I knew it (Stella rushes to close Hannah’s mouth)

(At this point, the Boss, Mr Thomas, walks in briefly with Sandra, the new staff. Sandra is holding Mr Thomas’ briefcase. Stella and Hannah rise to their feet immediately)

Stella and Hannah: Good morning sir. 

Mr Thomas: (Suspecting something fishy) How are you doing ladies?

Stella and Hannah: Very fine sir

Mr Thomas: I hope everything is truly fine as you say.

Stella and Hannah: Yes sir

Mr Thomas: If you say so, it’s Alright. (Looks at Sandra). Please work on the documents I forwarded to your email and pass it across to Hannah. 

Sandra: Alright Sir

Mr Thomas: (Looks at Hannah) As soon as she sends it, finalize the documentation and send it to our clients and partners so we can have a smooth meeting when they come around on Thursday.

Hannah: Alright sir.

Mr Thomas: That’s good. Stella, please let me know as soon as Mr Williams gets back. I’d be in my office. (He begins to walk away) Have a great day guys. I’d see you later.

Hannah, Stella and Sandra: Thank you sir (they resume duties on their desks. When the boss is completely out of sight, Hannah walks up to meet Sandra)

Hannah: (In a mocking tone) Most dutiful staff! Well done oh. What a life! You’re trying so hard to please Oga and it just doesn’t make sense. See how you’re throwing yourself all around him. I pity you in this office. I will deal with you so much that you’d not be able to tell it to any living soul.

Sandra: Haa! What did I do? Me? How did I throw myself at anybody? I’m just dutifully doing my job oh. And please, I’m not up for all these offenses. Don’t get me angry abeg. I don’t have that time.

Stella: Heheheeh! Who are you talking to? You know you met us in this office abi? Sit down there and look at your life. You dey do like say na you sabi work pass. Just continue. If you think you will get a promotion or a salary raise before us in this office, you’re a joker. I’ve noticed you for a while now but from today, I openly declare you as an enemy. You will see shege!

Sandra: Please, I don’t know what I did wrong, but abeg, just leave me. I’m just diligently discharging my duties oh. Please leave me alone.

Mr Thomas: (calls from inside) Sandra! Sandra!

Sandra: Yes sir! (She rushes out to Mr Thomas’ office)

Hannah: (Turns to Stella) See what we are saying? Madam workaholic! In this office, you will see. Go and come back here. You go hear am.

Scene 3

(Later that day, Sandra is seen in the office. She is in a mix of a trance and reality, bound in chains)

Sandra: God, these my colleagues are trying so hard to offend me. It’s frustrating to see how they’re after my life. You told me that I’m resuming work into your will for me at this time of my life, but these people are thorns to my flesh. I can’t imagine living my life in this place.

Because of their actions, I have kept them in my heart and it burdens me when I pray. Please help me, Lord. Deliver me from this bondage caused by my unforgiveness. My heart is too heavy, Lord. Help me to learn forbearance. Teach me to follow peace with all men and accommodate even their future offenses.

Background voice: You have the key to your deliverance. Why stay in bondage when you can be free? Release these people from the cage of your heart and be open to accommodate their future offenses. Seeee! People will always be people. They will still offend you in the future. In fact, as soon as you leave this place, they will offend you again. A good way to ensure that you leave in peace with God, man and yourself is to forgive and forbear. Simply Pray for them and accommodate their excesses in your heart just as Christ did for you. In Matthew 6:12, you see that God forgave your trespasses, so that you can forgive those who trespass against you by letting go of both the wrongs and the resentment. 

Don’t lock yourself up in this cage! Forgive! Forgive!!!

Sandra: (weeping profusely) I forgive you Stella. I forgive you Hannah (She begins to call names of the people who offended her in the past)

Lord help my heart. Please Lord, help me to love… Teach me to forgive and help me to forbear. Help me to accommodate excesses and be slow to anger. Help my heart Lord. Help my unforgiveness, Lord…

(As she continues praying the chains fall off her hands and feets)

My God! The chains are falling! The chains caused by unforgiveness! They are falling! My God!

Background Voice: That’s the result. You have caged these ones in your heart for so long. You have hosted bitterness in your heart but now see such great deliverance coming your way! See such light flooding your heart! See such glory and power made manifest because you open your heart to forgive! Like you, many believers have locked themselves up unknowingly yet they show up in smiling faces and pretend like nothing happened, whereas, they are biting deep in unforgiveness. Ask the Lord for help today. Ask for help.
