The Secret to a United Family According to God's Word.

The Family That Prays Together Stays Together

You’ve probably heard that phrase before—and during one of our children’s Sunday School sessions, it was repeated again and again. Why? Because it's true. Prayer is powerful. It brings the family together, strengthens their bond, and anchors them in Christ.

In our church, the month of May is specially set aside as Family Month—a time when we focus on building godly homes and strengthening family bonds.

A Christian home isn’t just one where the family shows up in church every Sunday. It’s more than that. It’s a place where Christ is the center, where love flows, and where each person plays a God-given role to keep the family working in harmony with the Master’s will.

When a family prays together, they grow closer to each other and to Christ. The Bible reminds us, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20, NIV). That includes families too. But for a home to remain united, everyone has a part to play.

Fathers, for example, are not just providers—they are the pastors of their homes. Sadly, many men think pastoring is only for those who lead churches. But if you have a family, then you’ve already been given a congregation to shepherd. You are a role model, a teacher, a guide, and a protector. Your children should learn how to walk with God under your leadership. You’re not just raising kids—you’re raising disciples. You provide for their physical needs, yes, but are you also nurturing their spiritual growth?

The Bible says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6, ESV).

Ask yourself: Do you correct your children in love, or do you ignore their mistakes just to keep them happy? Do you make time for Bible study and family prayer, or is everything else always more important?

Mothers, being a virtuous woman isn’t just about bearing children—it’s about living a life of character, wisdom, and grace. Proverbs 31 paints the picture of such a woman—strong, wise, nurturing, and God-fearing. “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her” (Proverbs 31:28, NIV). Your children are watching, learning, and imitating. What are you showing them?

Sometimes, through our emotions, we excuse behaviors that need correction. But raising godly children requires intentionality. They need your guidance, your prayers, and your example.

And children, you’re not left out. God has a plan and purpose for your life too. You’re called to obey, to grow in virtue, and to live according to His Word. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right” (Ephesians 6:1, NIV). In a Christ-centered family, every member contributes to the spiritual health and unity of the home.

In the end, God is pleased when families function as a team—each person fulfilling their role with love and purpose. A home built on Christ and prayer is one that will not only survive, but thrive.

So let’s build homes that reflect heaven. Homes where prayer is a daily habit. Where the Word is taught. Where love is lived. And where each family member helps the other grow.
