A man who does not know who he is, and what he stands for can easily be deceived, and led astray. It is therefore important to not just know who you are but also what you represent or stand for. Praise God. Take for instance, if you call a person by his name, and he refuses to answer that name, what do you think is actually the problem? I'll tell you, it is simply a problem of identity. It is because he has not come to understand that he is to be addressed by that name, this not ignoring the fact that he heard but refused to answer.
The Lord Jesus knew who he was. He needed no one to tell him. He knew he was from the Father, and was his beloved, and the only begotten of the Father. He knew he was the Son of God, and that was chiefly the reason the devil could not succeed when he came to him with such tactics as, if you know you're the Son of God, do this, and do that. The Lord Jesus knew who he was, of whom he was, and what he stood for.
This as well is to send a message to all believers that we are to take the issue of our identity so serious. We are of God, the scripture says, and that if anyone be in Christ, there's a transformation that occurs. Glory to God. Today, we shall see from the scripture how important the issue of identity is, and what identity has been given to us by the Lord. May the Lord bless us through his word. Amen. The passage of scripture under consideration is seen below,
"As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world".(John 9:5).
If one is the son of a king, that person most probably is entitled to the throne especially after the demise of his father. But before that would happen, he still has to live as the son of the king, right? Do you know however that the son of the king can live like a slave in his father's kingdom? Yes, very true. You want to know why? I'll tell you very quickly, because that son, not just that he doesn't know who he is, he doesn't know of whom he is, and what power he carries as the son of the king. You see again the problem of identity. Hallelujah.
Let's look at the words of the Lord Jesus, he said in the scripture, that is, the passage in our study today, that he remains the light as long as he is in the world. What confidence you say, right? It is the truth, and you can't even deny it. Look at what great light he displayed during his stay on earth, how the blind saw, the deaf heard, the dumb spoke, etc. He didn't just say it, it wasn't just head knowledge, he lived it. He showed not just by words but also by actions that he was indeed the light.
Christ said as long as he was in the world, he was the light, right? But he is no longer in the world, is he? Does that render the passage useless? The answer is no. Although Christ is no longer here, he still is the light, but now radiates the light through us. Little wonder, in Matthew 5:14, he said that you (we his children) are the light of the world), and in verse 16, he says to let the light so shine, why? Because it is not just enough to know you're the light but to live as the light; with so much brightness. This is your identity, you're the light of the world just as he is, and you're to live as light just as he did. The Lord help our understanding in Jesus' name. Amen.
Thought for the day: It is not just enough to know your identity, you must live it. You're the light of the world, let your light so shine!
