It is believed, and very much the fact that if something bad happens to a person, it is because such a person has done something terrible or as a result of some ancestral punishment, and that exactly is his reason for suffering. Many people in our world today hold onto this idea or belief. So when you experience an unpleasant situation or find yourself in one, there would be no need to plead guilty because according to them, you're suffering from that which you did or your parent.
Is that truly the case? Could there be some iota of truth in this? Does the fact that someone is going through a seemingly unpleasant situation mean that such a person did something wrong ? Does that mean that his parent committed an offence? Can God still be glorified in such a case? Can it ever be possible that the Lord would make one go through such that he may show forth his works in the person? These are some of the questions that today's study will be providing answers to. Praise God.
Still considering lessons from the book of John, and I trust that the Lord has been blessing our hearts as well, we shall be looking at another notable sign that was done by our Lord, and Saviour, Jesus Christ; how that the blind was made to see. The Lord bless us through his word. Amen. The passage of scripture under consideration is seen below,
"Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him". (John 9:3).
In the ninth chapter of John, the scripture records that Jesus passing by saw a man who was blind, and that raised some questions which he had to answer. The thing was not that this man became blind after birth; he was blind from birth, meaning that he was born that way. The disciples being surprised as to seeing that a man was born blind then asked Jesus just as some people would have asked if it was that this happened as a result of sin, either by the man or his parent. The question one should ask is, how could it have been the man's sin since he was born blind? Another question is, could he have been suffering from what his parent did since he didn't know, and was born that way?
Well, Jesus gave an answer that clarified all doubt, and gave the disciples a perfect understanding of the situation. His response is what we have as our anchor text above. The disciples came to discover based on Jesus' response that this was not as a result of sin, neither of the man or his parent. They did nothing wrong. If they did nothing wrong, the man nor his parent, why was he born blind? The Lord also gave an answer to that, he said it was so, that the works of God should be made manifest in the man. Glory to God.
The reason for his predicament was that the Lord wanted to prove to others through him that nothing was impossible, and that he could make the blind see. So the issue wasn't his blindness but the power of God being revealed in him that others may see, and believe. Praise God! To someone reading this today, it may be that you are experiencing a very difficult situation, pain, or even something you cannot disclose to anyone, the finances are bad, your marriage is not the way it used to be, and having examined yourself to see that you have done nothing to deserve such, you're wondering why it happened. The Lord says to tell you that it is so that the works of God may be manifested in you such that others would see, and believe. And just like the blind man received his sight, there's a long lasting solution coming your way. The Lord comforts your heart today with these words. Amen.
Thought for the Day
While you have done nothing wrong to deserve what you're experiencing, it is to the end that the works of God should be manifested in you. Just be patient for it will soon pass away.
