It is important that we not only have the knowledge of the fact that we are children of God but to also know for sure, and that through his word the privileges that have been given to us as children of God. It is therefore worthy of acceptance that as believers, we should all seek to know, and to ever live continuously in the knowledge of that which the Lord has freely given to us by his grace.
The apostle Paul in his epistle to his son in the faith, Timothy, made a very important statement, and that I believe was to exhort him as well as encourage him to the end that he would be able to do faithfully that which the Lord had committed into his hands.
I trust the Lord to help us see through the words of the apostle Paul, and also teach to us, and that by his Spirit the things that pertain to us as believers. The words of the apostle Paul is seen in the verse of scripture below,
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind". (2 Timothy 1:7).
This is indeed amazing, isn't it? That we not only have the knowledge that we are children of God but also understand that there are things he has given to us as his children, and there are things he has not given to us as well. What could those things be?
First of all, it is important to know that as believers, and according to our anchor text, that we have not been given the spirit of fear. Fear in itself beyond being afraid is a spirit, and God has not given us that. We are not to be influenced by it because we have not been given that as sons.
Second of all, the text also tells to you and I that which the Lord by his grace has given us: the spirit of love, power, and of a sound mind.
As believers who by the grace of God possess in us the spirit of love, we are to love unconditionally as Christ loved, that is, to love without dissimulation. Also, as children who have been given the spirit of power, we are to live our lives in such a way that the power of God is seen, being able to live above all things that negate the nature of God. Finally, we are to live with the consciousness of the fact that we have a sound mind, since we have been given the spirit. May this things sink down into you, and I, and may we live our lives in the knowledge of that which we have been given by the Lord. Amen.
Thought for the day: Dear believer, God has not given you the spirit of fear but that of love, of power, and of a sound mind.
