God Lives Forever: Gospel Today Devotional - 31st December, 2023

KNOWING GOD SERIES

Many times we say God is eternal. God is from everlasting to everlasting, isn't it? This could have made more sense if truly many of us understand that which we say. Well, to say the truth, this is no exaggeration. God lives forever. There's no end to God. There's no end to his kingdom. There's no end to his rulership. He lived before time, he still is living now, and will live forever. Isn't it interesting to know that God does not die, and that God will not die? That God will remain alive even if everything else dies. This is another attribute of God. The fact that God is eternal in nature. He lives in eternity, and in eternity is no death. This means that God lives forever and forever. There's no end to God.

God Lives Forever: Gospel Today Devotional - 31st December, 2023

The knowing God series has been by the grace of God a very wonderful lesson with so many things to actually know about God, how that we should live our lives knowing well that the nature of God is now at work in us as children of his. Indeed the Lord has been faithful. This will be the concluding lesson on the series, and I trust that the Lord even through this will speak to your hearts even as he speaks to mine in Jesus' name. Amen.

When we say one is immortal, just to say it in plain terms, it means one is not mortal, right? It means such a one has a life that is above death. It means to say such a one never dies. It means to say such a one lives eternally. God is immortal. God is above death. God is eternal in nature. This is another thing to note about God. Let's look at the passage of scripture below,

"Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God" (Psalm 90:2).

Look at what the scripture says in the passage above, that before anything was, and before anything was formed, God was. He existed and lived before time began. He was God from the beginning. The scripture says something so profound, that from everlasting to everlasting he is God. It's as though the scripture was saying from the very beginning to the end, you are God, right? But to use the words beginning and end would do no good in explaining the eternal nature of God. That is why the word from everlasting to everlasting was used. It means the beginning of God is everlasting, and the end of God is everlasting which means that God has no end. His beginning, and ending is endless. Praise God.

Now you understand why the scripture in John 3:16 says that God gives eternal life to those who believe in his Son whom he gave, right? Because God is eternal in nature. We have been given eternal life as believers. We have the life of God in us. Glory to God. Someone may say right now, you're saying we have eternal life, but why is that men still die? To answer your question, for the believer, death is not the end of your life. It is an exit into a forever existence. This is not just for the believer, even unbelievers too.

We are meant to live forever. This should create a concern for all. Those who have received Christ have this hope of living with God eternally. The eternal destination of man is dependent on the choice he makes, either to accept or reject the offer of salvation God gives. This is to you dear believer, you have the life of God in you (eternal life), and although there's a promise to live eternally with God hereafter, you're to live in earth now that you're alive as you would live eternally with God hereafter. To the one who is yet to have this hope of eternal living with God, you can come today. You can make the decision today. If you would confess and believe Jesus as Saviour, and Lord, you too will receive of this life. May the Lord help us all in Jesus' name. Amen.

Thought for the day:

There's no end to God. He lives from everlasting to everlasting, and you have received of his life which is eternal. You should live your life in earth even as you would live eternally with God hereafter.
