Who You Are in Christ: Gospel Today Devotional - 6th February, 2024

When you buy a product from a store, say a phone for example, it comes with a manual most times, isn't it? Of course, yes. Do you know why such is needed? So as to give you a knowledge about the phone; what the features are, how you are to handle it, what charger you're to use, the battery capacity, what it is you're not to do to the phone, and what you're to do if you must be able to use the phone for a very long time. Praise God. This is indeed important, and every manufacturer should endeavour to do this so as the help the end user have a better understanding of the product, and like it is rightly said, when the use of a thing is not known, then abuse becomes inevitable. Glory to God.

In as much as the manual gives the end user a know-how on the product, it is paramount that the manufacturer or producer as the case may be does that. Do you know why? This is because the product is a direct representative of the manufacturer, and if by chance the product is used without the availability of the manual, and abused by the end user, it will send a message to all that the product is bad, and that puts the manufacturer in a very difficult position. So that the phone for instance can be a good representative of the brand, and the manufacturer, it is expected that a manual is included which helps the people know how to use it, and which brings to the producer a very good image. Are we still together?

The illustration above is to paint a picture for you, and I to see, and to understand better our teaching today. Praise the Lord! So as to represent the Lord here on earth, he has given us a manual which is his word, the Holy Bible, that should guide, and help us pattern our lives such that all who see will glorify his name, and draw near or nearer to him as the case may be. The question however is, are we really representing him as we should? Do we know who we truly are? The passage of scripture to be considered today is seen below,

"Now then we are ambassadors for Christ". ( 2 Corinthians 5:20).

It was stated during the illustration that a bad representation of the producer by his product gives the brand a bad name, right? So it is with many professed Christians today, although we claim to be believers, we have portrayed a message that negates the very nature of our profession. Do you know why the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch? It was because as ambassadors for Christ, they represented him in such a way that made people see Christ in them. Today however, rather than live the life of Christ, we only profess with our mouth but never show by our lives that we are his. Hallelujah! The question one would want to ask is this, is it that as believers, we do not know that we are to live like him? Don't we know that we are his representatives here on earth?

It was recorded in scripture that as he is, so are we in this world, isn't it? (1 John 4:17). This means that although he is not here physically, he has placed us here to make known his nature, to live, and to act just like him. Why do you think the scripture says to let your light so shine that men may see your good works? It is because you're now his representative on earth, you're now the light of the world, and you're to reflect his light in you that men may see, and glorify him. That's the reason you're here. You're to do everything you do with this mind in you, that you're Christ's representative on earth, and that when you portray a message that contradicts his nature, his name will be dishonoured. Praise God.

The anchor text for today makes it so clear, and simple. It says we are ambassadors for Christ, meaning that we are as believers his representatives on earth. You may not have had this knowledge before now, or you may have but still living otherwise. This is a reminder to us all that we are to live just as he lived, and act just like he did. We are to shine forth so bright that men may see, and glorify his name. The end goal is that he be glorified on earth even as he is in heaven but for that to happen, you have to live his life here on earth for all to see, and to know for sure that you're Christ's ambassador. The Lord help us in Jesus' name. Amen.

Thoughts for the Day

It is expedient to know that you're Christ's representative here on earth, and if his name must be exalted on earth as it is in heaven, your life must reflect completely his nature.
