Burning Altars by Ologun Opeyemi

Leviticus 6:12

The Old Testament is a said to be the foundation of the New Testament. Although, the glory of the new is no match for the old, however, in its human limitation, the old offered a bit of insight. This is why this instructive counsel must not be ignored in our Christian walk.

And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings.

The altar on fire in this dispensation is our hearts being ignited by the Holy Ghost. And as a word of caution, we were admonished not to grieve Him. In order words, we can safely say that we must not put out this fire as similarly recorded in Leviticus 6:12. In the Old Testament, putting out this fire was a possibility when the priest fails at giving the altar the great care it needs.

One of this important care is clearing the ashes upon the altar. This ensures the fire upon the altar keeps on burning. As a Christian, this process might be considered as filtering or sieving out the chaff. if we fail to filter what we consume (through our ears, eyes and hearts), soon enough our lives become a dumping site for all sorts. The effect of this is that gradually, our sensitivity becomes suppressed if not totally put out. All that is in the world are lust of the eyes, lust of flesh and pride of life.

As a Christian keeping burning our altars burning is essential in our kingdom walk, this we must do through the help of the Holy Spirit to keep at bay everything that can corrupt our thoughts and negatively affect our actions.

The priest shall burn wood…the scriptures say in 2 Peter 2:9 that we are a royal priesthood and as priests, studying and meditating upon God’s word is the fuel we need to continue to enjoy burning altars. The fervency of our spirit man depends on how much we have allowed the word of God to take root in our hearts.

Only burning altars can set the world on fire and transform our world. As the world continually grows cold, wallowing in the dearth of morals and collapse of the family unit, we must rise to lift high the banner of Jesus.

To stay burning, stay in the secret place. “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:38-29). Glory to God our Father is a consuming fire, we have no business staying lukewarm or cold. Our fire must set the world aflame to the restoration and redeeming of our lost world.

Only people aflame can make a difference in the world. A generation burning for God and igniting revival across the nations of the world. Much more than being on fire, it is God’s desire that we stay burning.

Burning altars keep the devil at bay and makes our Master, the Lord Jesus proud.
