Sub Text: Psalms 119:25 “My soul cleaves to the dust; Revive me according to your Word.”

I used to love you,
But now, I'm not so sure.
Without knowing,
Other things have replaced you in my life.

I spend hours chatting with friends on social media platforms,
But I doze off at the slightest attempt to read your word,
I find time for every other thing,
But finding time for fellowship in prayers with you, is an uphill task.

I engage in several activities,
But my heart is far from you.
My public life is blooming,
But my secret place is suffering.

I gave myself to the wrong influences of friends,
I gave myself to loving pleasures more than I love you,
Now, sin has found its way into my life,
Challenges and attacks of every sort  overwhelm me.

I sink into hopelessness day after day,
And my life is dry and void of your presence.
I allowed the pursuit of  my ambitions to cloud my heart,
And now, I don't even know you.

I can feel it,
I can't lie any longer.
Revive me, oh Lord my God,
Give me a fresh start with you.

I'm sorry for the things I've made it,
When it's all about you.
I return to your presence,
Purge me of every misdeed and help my weaknesses.

Restore my passion for Prayers,
Restore my  hunger for your word,
For corporate fellowship,
For evangelism.

Do not leave me to myself,
It is in you I breathe, live and have my being.
I'm nothing without you,
Lord, I need you to survive.

The Poem above espoused the life of a believer whose Spiritual life has grown weak. It is possible that a believer  remains in a nosediving Spiritual state, 'rising today, falling tomorrow', if the needful is not done. The problem with many believers rests in the myth of Spiritual Complacency.

A believer can choose to pray for seven hours on a particular day and feels he  has invested a lot into his Spiritual life, then days that follow will come with a sense of relaxation and satisfaction that births Prayerlessness.

This is not so, as the Christian journey is 'daily'.

"And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings"( Leviticus 6:12)

In the scripture above, it can be seen that the priest is expected to burn wood on it every morning. Believers, as kingly priests, are expected to do the same through daily devotions, prayers, worship and praises, reading and study of God's words, evangelism and other spiritual exercises.

The fire on the altar should not go out. Sometimes, believers are burning for God's work in His Kingdom, however their personal altars are suffering!. Things have to be balanced. Apart from Spiritual Complacency, another factor responsible for a dying or dead altar is 'Busyness'. We are in a fast paced world where everyone wants to achieve good things early. Some believers work almost round the clock and after an extremely busy day, they find rest in a weary sleep. Others indulge in the excessive use and attachment to Social media platforms, with no time for their maker.

The fire on the altar cannot burn without an intentional and a daily investment of Spiritual exercises into one's relationship with God. However, when the fire on a believer's altar goes faint, there is hope and grace to keep it aglow again. Isaiah 40: 29-31 says "He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint"

“For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And that its tender shoots will not cease. Though its root may grow old in the earth,And its stump may die in the ground, Yet at the scent of water it will bud And bring forth branches like a plant." Job 14:7-9

With God and with the Holy Spirit's help, the fire keeps burning!

Prayer: "Lord, I'm sorry for the little value I've placed on you. Restore my hunger and passion for you, more than my necessary food. Help me to put you in front of all I ever own and desire. Revive and quicken me, awaken your love in me once again.

  7. Hmmm. May God help us all. It's easy to nosedive if one is not careful. In fact, the whole system seem to be set up to squeeze out our spirituality, but through God we continue to shine as light in this present world. Amen...

    God bless you ma
