LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE
As we conclude the series, "Be a witness for Christ", we just must thank God for helping us thus far. We have been able to consider four lessons before now and this will be the final lesson on this series. It is my prayer that as we go through today's study, the Lord will cause his word to dwell richly in our hearts. Amen.
In the previous lesson, we were able to see how important it is for us to not only be witnesses for Christ to those outside our inner circle but also to those in our inner circle as most times we find it difficult to do so. I also believe that this has created a new drive in our hearts to the end that we would be witnesses for Christ even to our friends and families. Glory to God!
We have been looking at the need to witness for Christ and everything we have talked about has been on how to be witnesses by preaching as such was the lesson learnt from the woman of Samaria, Philip and Andrew respectively. While this is good and what we should delight in doing as believers, we must know that we must do as we say and should be witnesses for Christ not just in words but in deeds also. Hallelujah. Let's look at the passage of scripture below,
"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. [15] Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. [16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:14-16).
If we must become effective witnesses for Christ, we must first understand this truth that we are the light of the world. It should reflect not just in our words but in our actions also. It may be justifiable to say that people watch us than they listen to us. It must be evident in you that you have become what you're preaching to people. If people would heed to your words and believe you, then they may just have to see that you have changed yourself.
Someone once said that if you have to tell others you're a Christian, then there's a problem. How will someone know I am a Christian or not should be the question, right? Do I have to wear big clothes, look shabby and put on a sad face? No, not at all. They will know by the life you live and if truly Christ now lives in you, it will show. This is also a way to be a witness for Christ; by letting your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and give glory to God your Father.
Do you know that by the reason of your life, men can come to inquire from you about Christ providing you the opportunity to preach to them? How often have you sent people away because your life does not align with that which you preach? Are you letting your light so shine before men? Do they see your good work? Can men glorify God through and inquire about Christ from you because of your life? You're a light and you should let that light so shine wherever you find yourself. This we should do as witnesses for Christ. The Lord help us in Jesus' name. Amen.
Thought for the day
More than you desire to be a witness for Christ with the words from your mouth, you must also desire and ensure to be a witness for him by the life you live.
