There are many people who today have no one to call their parents. This may be due to a lot of reasons. It is possible that such persons never got a chance to meet their parents simply because they died even before he or she was born. It could also be as a result of the fact that just somehow they were separated from their parents. Well, whichever case it is, the fact remains that some persons never get the chance to call someone father or mother as the case may be.
How can this even be possible when most times they sleep on the streets? How can these be possible when they never got to know who their parents were? It is touching, isn't it? This is to tell you that there are people out there who don't enjoy the affection you enjoy nor do they get the attention you get. Glory to God. It is indeed a thing of joy to be loved by someone and to be a son or a daughter to someone too, don't you agree? How do you think the one who has no parents and has gotten no parental love would feel if he was adopted by someone?
Glad, isn't it? Yes! Such a one would be so glad that he got the chance to be loved by someone. He would be happy that he got the privilege to be called son or daughter. He would be happy due to the fact that he no longer has to sleep on the streets nor strive any longer for affection and attention. This will form the basis for our study today. Hallelujah! Let's see the passage of scripture below,
"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not." ( 1 John 3:1).
Having gone through the first and second chapter of 1 John, we are now in the third chapter and today's lesson would mark the first lesson in this chapter. God be praised for that which he is doing, has done and will still do even as we continue in this series. Hallelujah. We need understand the fact that God loves us. In fact, we cannot quantify his love for us; it is immeasurable. He showed his love towards us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). The scripture also talks about the fact that God 'so loved' that he gave his only begotten Son to the end that we should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
Owing to the fact that man sinned, we were all supposed to suffer eternal damnation, isn't it? The scripture says by one man's disobedience many were made sinners ( Romans 5:19), which of course implies that what could have been the punishment of that one man could have been the punishment of us all as seen in Romans 5:18a, "Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation". This could have been our fate but God in his love still made a way of escape for us. He 'so loved' that he gave.
Amazed by his love, Apostle John writes, "Behold, what manner (kind) of love hath the Father bestowed on us that we (who have sinned and should be condemned) should now be called the sons of God" (paraphrased). How do we explain this kind of love? No one can explain it. It pleased him to do so. Compared to the illustration of those who never had any parental care, attention and affection but were later adopted and given the privilege to be called sons, God has also adopted us into his beloved through his Son, JESUS CHRIST, that we would become sons to him. This is indeed a great privilege and in this we are to rejoice and be thankful that God by his love has made us sons indeed. God bless his word in our hearts. Amen.
Thought for the day
God's love cannot be quantified. It is too wonderful to imagine. How can one who has sinned and deserving of his wrath be loved by him and given the privilege to be called his son? This is the greatest of all privileges.
