Grace to you and peace from God the Father. We ascribe all glory to God who has been our inspiration, causing us to put together by the help of his Spirit words that exhort, comfort and edify. We have been looking at the book of 1 John for some days now, right? We have considered the first chapter and we are now in the second chapter. There have been many lessons from this chapter which we shall be concluding very soon.
If not for anything at all, at least for the hope that you would get something when you meet a particular condition, you will not in any way want to do things that would make you miss out on such, isn't it? Even if one comes to tell you there's no point in you keeping to the rules or expecting such a thing, would you even listen? While some people may, I am rest assured you would not.
Yesterday, we talked about the fact that there are many persons who claim to speak for Christ yet deny the very fact that he is the Son of God thereby leading many astray. We saw as well how that we have an unction from the Holy one that teaches us all things such that we are not easily deceived by these false teachers and their false teachings, right? This a follow up on yesterday's study. Let's see the passage of the scripture below,
"Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. [23] Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also . [24] Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. [25] And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life" ( 1 John 2:22-25).
It was said from yesterday's lesson that the truth you know about Christ as a result of fellowship with him in prayer and study of his word is your weapon against every form of false teaching, right? It is also important to note that the promise we have been made by him is also another thing that keeps us standing even in the face of cunningly devised fables. Hallelujah.
The apostle John continues by saying that anyone who denies Jesus as Christ is a liar. We grew up with the picture of who an antichrist is, that is, someone who is ugly, has horns and perhaps has a scary voice too. However, we know from here that anyone who denies the Son and the Father is antichrist. Whoever denies the Son has not the Father but the one who acknowledges him has the Father also.
There are many who deny the Son and the fact that Jesus is the Christ and they are very much around today. Although they are very much around, we have been given the strategy to overcoming them which is to let that which we have heard from the very beginning abide in us because if we do, we shall continue both in the Son and in the Father unlike those who deny both the Son and the Father. In addition, we should also be conscious of the promise we have been made, that is, the promise of eternal life as this will also help us continue both in the Son and in the Father with the hope that we shall one day see him as he is, and reign eternally with him. The Lord help us to be doers of his word. Amen.
Thought for the day: Let that which you have heard and believed about Jesus being the Christ and the very Son of God abide in you, for in doing so, you will continue both in the Son and in the Father.
