Do You Exalt Folly?: Gospel Today Devotional - 12th August, 2022

There are times people step on our toes, isn't it? By this, I mean that there are times people do things to offend us in ways that we do not imagine.  Sometimes, we allow this to get to us that we react in such an appropriate way.

Do You Exalt Folly?: Gospel Today Devotional - 12th August, 2022

Sometimes, it may be a situation that we did not understand properly that makes us react in such a way. Whatever the case may be, we are not to be quick to anger especially when we do not even understand the situation. Let's see the passage of the scripture below,

"He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly". (Proverbs 14:29)

It is possible to get angry quickly because someone offended you or that you misinterpreted something but that's not the best thing to do. Look at what the scripture says about being quick to anger.

It says the one who is slow to wrath hath understanding. This may be because he doesn't let his emotions override his actions. Even though he has every right to be, he still takes his time to assess the situation, and make excuses somehow for such a person such that he is not offended.

However, the one who is hasty to get angry does so without taking time to assess the situation before flaring up. In doing so, he only exalts foolishness. This may be because people would see him as irrational, with inappropriate behavior. There's no wisdom in being hasty in spirit. He that is slow to wrath is he that is of great understanding.

Daily Nugget: Are you of great understanding? or do you exalt foolishness by being quick to anger?

Prayer: Lord, help me to be slow to anger. That I would not let my emotions override my actions. Help me to control myself when situations that may make me upset to the point of acting irrationally arise.
