THE REASON WE FEAR
Yesterday, we saw from scripture what a lack of faith in God yields in terms of trusting him for provision. We were made to understand that the reason we worry many times as believers is that our faith is little, and by this, we mean to say that we do not even trust the Lord enough to cater to our needs. Praise God.
While we continue in the series, we shall be seeing something different; another thing that our lack of faith in God causes. It is my prayer that the Lord through his word would minister to you and me. Amen. Let's see the passage of scripture below,
"And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm". (Matthew 8:26).
Jesus and his disciples were traveling together when a strong wind arose that almost destroyed the ship that he was in. Well, anyone could have been afraid as the wind was boisterous. Did I say that Jesus was with them? Yes, he was.
This must have been the problem. They had forgotten Jesus was with them. Although Scripture records that he was asleep, he was still on that same ship with his disciples. Being afraid of the wind, they came crying to Jesus if he didn't care if they perished or not. Of course, he did but fear clouded their heart that they had forgotten he was there with them.
What was Jesus' statement even before he rose and spoke to the wind? Why are you fearful O ye of little faith? They were afraid, although he was with them, they didn't see him as one who could save them. Aren't we like Jesus' disciples? When faced with situations that seem challenging, don't we panic and ask a lot of questions so unreasonable though we know the answers? If God is ever ready to save us, why then do we fear? This we should ask ourselves. The Lord bless his word in our hearts. Amen.
Daily Nugget: If you would see God in that situation as one who is able and mighty to save, you would not need to fear even though the situation is so challenging.
Prayer: Lord, you have said not to be afraid or dismayed. It is true when faced with challenges, fear grips my heart. I only ask that you give me the grace to see you as able and mighty to save such that fear no longer grips my heart. Amen.
