Humility is one key virtue every believer should possess. If truly Christ now lives in you and the life which you now live, you live by the faith in the Son of God who loved you and gave himself for you, then you should have this trait in you.
The ability not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think is what sometimes you find difficult to do. Men want to show people who they are, and many times, the people they claim to be is nothing compared to some people who do not even reveal who they are. What then is the issue? Pride.
Isn't it a thing to think about when someone attends a gathering and wants to sit in the high places when he has not been told to do so? Do you then blame the organizers if they ask him to take a lower seat? Whoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted. Let's not forget this scriptural principle, friends. Shall we see the passage of scripture below,
"Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off" (Psalm 138:6).
God himself delights in those who are humble. Could this be the reason the scripture said to humble yourself under the mighty hand of God that he may exalt you in due time ( 1 Peter 5:6)? If we see verse 5 of 1 Peter 5, we would also note that God gives grace to the humble but resists the proud.
This means that we are not to exhibit any element of pride in our lives as believers. You may be wealthy as this may be the perfect example because people think only wealthy people can be proud but that does not mean you should look down on those who do not have as much as you do. This is not just to those who are wealthy alone, but also to those who can sing, preach, lead, and to those who are intelligent. Never think of yourself more highly than you ought. Although high, have respect for others just like God who is your Father.
The scripture talks about him that although he is high, he respects those who are lowly. If God decides not to show respect for anyone, who would question him? No one, this is to show that even God Himself is humble. What then do you have that makes you act otherwise? If you must know, God distances himself from the proud. He only knows them from afar. Two things to note from today? The first is that God is humble himself. The second is that God has respect for those who are humble but distances himself from those who are proud. The Lord bless his word in our hearts. Amen.
