5 Lessons From the Life of Jezebel

You may be wondering what lessons you can possibly learn from Jezebel. The Bible tells us that everything that happens in life, whether good or bad teaches us lessons and this is not an exception.

In 1 kings 16:31, the Bible tells us that, Ahab became king over Israel, he reigned in Samaria over Israel but not only did he sin like all other kings before, he took Jezebel, daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians and began to serve Baal and worship him.

In 1 Kings 19, after Elijah had slaughtered the prophets of Baal, Jezebel sent a message to Elijah threatening to take his life like he did to the prophets of Baal. This message made Elijah flee because everyone knew how powerful Jezebel was.

Her story is that of rebellion against the people of God yet her story teaches us this lessons:

1. Do not Kill

1st Kings 21 tells us how Jezebel plotted and killed a man because he had refused to give her husband, Ahab, his family's land. As believers, we learn that for no reason should we take out punishment on any man by plotting to, and killing a fellow human being.

2. Don’t Practice Idolatry

Not only did the King become a prophet of Baal, the people of Israel also joined him to worship Baal. As believers, we shouldn't be influenced by whatever community or environment we find ourselves, by remembering God's commandments we do not let our surrounding determine the outcome of our lives.

3. Listen to God's voice

It is not enough to just hear God's word it is important you always remember it as well. Hearing from God can help us take better life decisions. Imagine if they were more people like Elijah who weren't afraid to speak of God's word in that time.

Notice also that Elijah didn't take any decision on impulse he was directed by God (1 Kings 19:11)

4. Know God's true words

In Revelations 2:20, we see how God rebukes the church for tolerating Jezebel who called herself a prophetess. Jezebel was known for misleading the people of God and causing them to sin.

5. Stay alert and prayerful

This is the only way to hear from God. Matthew 26:41 says "Watch and pray so that you'll not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak".

Conclusion

Jezebel had a detrimental effect on every thing she was a part of, she led the spiritual downfall of the Israelites and ruined her husband's political life. There are people like Jezebel in the world today, we should remember to stay true to our faith so as to avoid temptation. God help us.
