What Does the Bible Say about Zodiac Signs?

The word of God has the ultimate authority over our lives, however, believing in the power and authority of zodiac signs goes directly against the word of God for our lives and destinies. The bible clearly tells us that chasing after false gods is a sin and there is no biblical evidence that God has given authority to the stars or astrologists.

Zodiac, or astrological, signs are one of 12 different constellations (star sections) through which the sun passes. Astrologers believe that in the heavens there is an imaginary belt or band, called the zodiac, and the section of the zodiac the sun was in when a person was born is their individual “sign.”

The signs include:

  • Aries (those born March 21-April 19)
  • Taurus (those born April 20-May 20)
  • Gemini (those born May 21-June 21)
  • Cancer (those born June 22-July 22)
  • Leo (those born July 23-Aug. 22)
  • Virgo (those born Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
  • Libra (those born Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
  • Scorpio (those born Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
  • Sagittarius (those born Nov. 23-Dec. 21)
  • Capricorn (those born Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
  • Aquarius (those born Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
  • Pisces (those born Feb. 19-March 20).

In the book of Genesis, the creation of the stars is described: " And God said, Let there be light in the firmaments of heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years." While this verse of the scripture acknowledges that celestial bodies can serve as signs or markers for seasons and times, it does not endorse their use for divination or as determinants of personal fate, which is a common use of zodiac signs in astrology.

In the book of Deuteronomy, there is a clear warning against idolatry, which includes worship or undue reverence for celestial bodies. " And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon , and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them." This admonition reflects that placing ultimate trust in anything other than God is considered idolatrous.

Should Christians believe in Zodiac signs?

Zodiacal signs existed long before Christianity started. The "Wise men" of the New Testament who supposedly visited Jesus Christ when he was born used and followed astrological symbols and signs in the night.

You may know some constellations and possibly your zodiac sign. However, if you begin to read the stars and practice astrology, or divining the heavens, then that is a sin. Only God is divine. Therefore, if you attribute divination to heavens and seek interpretations, then you are worshiping a false god.

It is important to know and understand that astrology goes against the teachings of Jesus Christ and can lead you into a path away from God. It might seem harmless to believe in zodiac signs, but it can quickly become an obsession that will take control of your entire life.

As Christians, we are not allowed to believe in zodiac signs. It could lead to idolatry, as it puts man's concept before God's ways.

The believe in astrological signs is that there are 12 signs commonly referred to as zodiac signs. The 12 zodiac signs are based on the individual's birthday and each sign has different personality traits associated with it. Many christians wonder if it is a sin to believe in zodiac signs. Yes! It is a sin to believe in these things. This is because astrology is a false belief system that is rooted in divination. God does not want us as christians to participate in witchcraft or the occultic. The belief in zodiac signs teaches that you are born into a zodiac sign, and your personality stems from being born on that day. The bible is clear that God is the one who created us, and he is the one who gives us our personality ( Psalms 139). God has made each person uniquely.

As christians, we need to understand that we are not defined by any astrological sign. Our identity is found in Christ alone. It is not good for any believer to live or identify themselves by their zodiac signs. This would mean partaking in divination and in the occult, which is a sin against God.

While there is a presumpion that some events in your life can be traced to a zodiac sign, it is important to note that Astrological signs are never truly correct and can not truly define a person's personality traits. It cannot predict a person's entire life based on their birth date. Believers in Christ have an added reason to reject astrology and zodiac signs —God condemns all forms of divination. In the Bible we find these words: “There should not be found in you anyone . . . who employs divination, anyone practicing magic, anyone who looks for omens, a sorcerer, anyone binding others with a spell, anyone who consults a spirit medium or a fortune-teller, or anyone who inquires of the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to God.” *—Deuteronomy 18:10-12. Just as God doesn't want us bowing before statues of Baal ( 2 kings 23:4), he doesn't want us heeding to the directives of stars ( zodiac signs) in order to decide whether to do a thing or the other. We are to listen to and heed to God's directives only.

As Christians, don’t need to look to stars to predict important events. We are to look to God and God alone.

As Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

It is very bad for Christians to read horoscopes or follow zodiac signs, just as it’s not OK to worship a golden calf like the Israelites did or consult a medium for answers on who to marry. God alone is our guide. We are to walk in alignment with Him. Anything else is a “false god.”

So if you are struggling with your identity or a decision and think maybe knowing more about your zodiac sign will provide some much-desired insight, think again. God is the one who made the stars in the first place, as well as each human being on this planet. Drawing closer to God is a far more reliable way to figure out who you are and decide what to do.It is important for christians to steer clear of astrology and zodiac signs. While it can be tempting to seek out answers or guidance from the stars, doing so goes against God's will for us as believers. Instead, we should focus on the truth of the word of God and seek God's wisdom in all matters.

Conclusion

Believing in zodiac signs is like trying to read a map for a destination that isn't there. By relying on God's word and the holy spirit, we can be assured of the direction in which we should go, and can be confident that he will guide us in his perfect will. Ultimately, our faith should be grounded in the truth of God's word and his plan for our lives, and not in the shifting of stars and planets. The bible tells us that, " For I know the plans I have for you , says the lord plans to prosper you and not to harm you ,plans to give you hope and a future " ( Jeremiah 29:11). When faced with the allure of astrology and zodiac signs, Christians should remember that God is sovereign over everything, including the stars and the planets. So we can be rest assured that our lives are in God's hands.
