Christian Poetry: Achan

One of us,
‎of the tribe mother christened Praise.

‎One of us,
‎a fellow soldier,
‎whose eyes saw, like first mother did.

‎One of us,
‎a father to sons and daughters.
‎Breads not his, buried in his tent,
‎and a hymn, his taste buds chorused.

‎For the one of us,
‎our God instructed,
‎"Purify the people...burn the one and all he has with fire."
‎But for the cold bodies of six and thirty,
‎we cast stones before fire, then stones after fire.
