The Founder and Senior Pastor of House on the Rock, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has described Nigeria as “dead and rotten,” lamenting the country’s worsening condition and calling on God-fearing citizens to become agents of national restoration.
Speaking during a sermon on May 17 titled “Becoming Who God Says That You Can Be: The Sequel,” Pastor Adefarasin said that Nigeria has enormous potential but continues to decline due to poor leadership, weak institutions, and a lack of citizens willing to take responsibility for national transformation. He said the country is “in comatose” and described its situation as deeply deteriorated.
He added that only the values of the “kingdom of God” can restore the nation, but stressed that such restoration would require committed individuals ready to act as agents of change. According to him, meaningful progress depends on people willing to do difficult work and drive systemic transformation.
Pastor Adefarasin also spoke about Nigeria’s economy, saying the country has not only devalued its currency but also its people. He argued that the falling value of the naira reflects deeper structural issues, criticizing weak historical awareness, lack of data-driven planning, and poor critical thinking. He compared the currency’s past value to its current state, saying economic decline has worsened hardship for citizens.
He further criticized Christians who enter politics for personal gain rather than public service, urging believers to embrace leadership and wealth creation as tools for national development.
The comments come amid growing public frustration over inflation, insecurity, economic hardship, and the falling value of the naira, with many Nigerians increasingly questioning the country’s direction.
