As Muslims across Nigeria mark this year’s Eid-el-Maulud, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on government leaders at all levels to prioritise good governance, accountability and the welfare of citizens.
The Christian body said the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad should provide an opportunity for Nigerians and their leaders to reflect on values such as compassion, justice, peace, selflessness and service to humanity.
CAN’s message comes amid growing concerns over economic hardship, insecurity and the difficulties confronting many Nigerian families. The association urged political leaders to move beyond promises and demonstrate their commitment to improving the lives of citizens through tangible actions.
The Christian body stressed that Nigerians are increasingly looking for governance that produces measurable results rather than repeated assurances.
The call also comes as President Bola Tinubu urged Muslims celebrating Eid-el-Maulud to reflect on the virtues of Prophet Muhammad, including devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness. For CAN, the occasion should therefore go beyond religious celebration and become a moment for renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence, responsible leadership and national development.
The association appealed to Nigerians of different faiths to continue promoting peace and unity while holding public officials accountable for their responsibilities.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with economic and security challenges, the message of Eid-el-Maulud presents a broader reminder that leadership is ultimately measured by its impact on the people.
For millions of Nigerians, the expectation is simple: less talk, more action; fewer promises, and more visible results.
