Bobby Gruenewald, founder and CEO of YouVersion, the ministry behind the world’s most widely used Bible app, was a special guest at Day 5 of the ongoing Holy Ghost Service.
Gruenewald fellowshipped with worshippers during the service and brought greetings, highlighting the growing intersection between technology, global Christianity and the spread of Scripture.

Founded by Life.Church, YouVersion launched the Bible App in 2008 with the vision of using technology to make Scripture accessible to people around the world.
What began as a simple Bible app has since grown into a global digital ministry platform.
The YouVersion family of apps has now surpassed one billion installs worldwide, with the platform used in countries across the globe. Its Bible App currently provides access to thousands of Bible versions and Scripture resources in more than 2,300 languages.

According to the organization, more than 17.5 million people use its apps daily, while the platform records more than 11 million new installs each month.
The impact was particularly visible during Easter 2026, when more than 21.6 million people engaged with the Bible through YouVersion on Easter Sunday, making it the highest Bible engagement day in the platform’s history at the time.
During Holy Week, average daily Bible engagement reached 18.7 million people, while engagement across Sub-Saharan Africa grew by 37 percent compared with the previous year.
From a Bible App to a Global Ministry Platform
Gruenewald’s work with YouVersion has increasingly gone beyond simply putting digital copies of the Bible on smartphones.
In 2026, YouVersion announced its YouVersion Platform, making technology developed for the Bible App available to churches, ministries, Bible organizations and developers.
The platform allows Scripture to be integrated into other digital products, giving developers access to Bible texts from multiple publishers and languages. YouVersion said the platform provides access to nearly 1,500 Bibles from 36 publishers across 1,283 languages.
The move reflects Gruenewald’s broader vision of using technology to remove barriers to Bible engagement and help more people encounter Scripture.
YouVersion Expands Its Presence in Africa
Africa has also become an increasingly important part of YouVersion’s global growth story.
In February 2026, the organization opened a regional hub in Nairobi, Kenya, citing significant growth in Bible engagement across the continent.
YouVersion reported that Kenya had recorded 19 million installs and a 39 percent year-over-year increase in daily use of its Bible apps, placing the country among the top five globally for daily engagement.
The organization has emphasized partnerships with African churches, leaders and content creators as it seeks to make Bible engagement more relevant to local communities.

Against this backdrop, Gruenewald’s presence at Day 5 of the Holy Ghost Service represents another notable moment connecting one of the world’s largest digital Bible ministries with a major Christian gathering.
Sharing the moment, organizers said the YouVersion CEO “fellowshipped with us tonight” and brought greetings.
For a ministry whose technology now places Scripture within reach of hundreds of millions of people, Gruenewald’s appearance also underscores how digital tools are increasingly becoming part of the way Christians around the world read, study and share the Bible.
