How to Become a New Man in Christ

Many people are perfectionists when it comes to physical appearances, yet they pay very little or no attention to their spiritual appearance. This makes it that in many cases, people run around naked as regards their spiritual lives. This is because the flesh makes man to be concerned about how he looks to others than how he looks to God. God's word in Colossians 3:9-10 aptly describes that a believer in Christ should be one who has taken off the old man and have put on the new man. This act of taking off the old man is a conscious spiritual activity and it is the complete change of structures and systems.

Becoming new in Christ is a duty of great spiritual importance. It is necessary to set a foundation for relevance in the kingdom of God. the best way to becoming new is not far fetched. It is similar to the story of a person who looks at himself before a mirror to ascertain his appearance- this time, conscious of what God says than what men say. This mirror is however spiritual, and the appearance too is.

The book of James in verses 23-25 says, For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth [therein,] he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed (KJV).

To truly become new, old clothes must be discarded, not hung in the wardrobe for the next time you want to wear them. Your focus every day must be to “Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature” (Romans 13:14, NIV).when sin is self-sustained in a man, it builds up a hard core nature because it has been gratified and indulged for many years like a spoilt child. This is why sin, especially core addictions do not leave without throwing a tantrum.

Flesh dies slowly. It dies a bitter an bloody death because it kicks and struggles against true change. You may experience occasional setbacks while the transformation into a new man begins but they should not derail you –the devil never wants to give up and God cannot give up on your soul either. When you feel you have gone off track, get back on your knees and ask God to help you get back on track.
