THE IGNORANCE OF A WISE MAN.

The ignorance of a wise man.

You are welcome here once again and am glad you made it. Today, we will be discussing on the topic: The Ignorance Of A Wise Man. Probably you are thinking, “is it possible to be a wise man, and yet, ignorant?”, just wait! As we would be unfolding this topic together.

The Ignorance Of A Wise Man ….

Our scriptural text would be taken from:
Matt.2: 1–12 (Amplified);
“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men [astrologers] from the east came to Jerusalem, asking, Where is He Who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east at its rising and have come to worship Him. When Herod the king heard this, he was disturbed and troubled, and the whole of Jerusalem with him. So he called together all the chief priests and learned men (scribes) of the people and anxiously asked them where the Christ was to be born. They replied to him, In Bethlehem of Judea,….Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, Go and search for the Child carefully and diligently, and when you have found Him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship Him. When they had listened to the king, they went their way, and behold, the star which had been seen in the east in its rising went before them until it came and stood over the place where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they were thrilled with ecstatic joy,…… And receiving an answer to their asking, they were divinely instructed and warned in a dream not to go back to Herod; so they departed to their own country by a different way”

A Chinese man once said “A wise man makes his own decisions but an ignorant man follows the public opinion” That is to say, “what shows you are a wise man is that you have sufficient knowledge to resort to whenever you come across any situation. This may and may not be true, why?, it’s because it depends on the person and the knowledge available at his/her disposal at the very moment.
We can see from the bible passage read above, the bible account of some wise men – the original word used means magicians or astrologers – who went about looking for the child born to be the king of the Jews, because of a star they saw from the east. So, this brings us to next phase ....

Ignorance !

Eph.4.17-18 (NIV):
So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

We can see that the major compass that has been directing the wise men’s (or Gentiles) journey from their country (in the east) is the star that appeared in the sky, which looks very different from every other star. As astrologers, they understood the star, and its meaning, hence, they set out to worship the new king. On getting to Jerusalem, I believe one of the first place they would have resolved to go is the kings palace. Although, this could be true because He was born into  David’s lineage, but, He was not born in the palace.
God gave this wise men a compass that has helped them in their long journey from the east, but, because they were ignorant of God’s leading, and having concluded that He can be found in the palace made them to shift their attention from God’s factor in their journey, to their own resource knowledge, which later became the cause of death to many children below age two during that time.

The Danger Of Ignorance …
Although, you might want to say “but they were fulfilling prophecy!” yes, it’s true, but, God also does not delight in wickedness (psalm 5:4). God, who knows all things; both the present, the future, and the past. He knew the wise men before their existence on earth. Just like pharaoh, God never desire in his destruction, he waited for him because He is ever patient (Rom 9:22). Thus, the wise men brought the calamity to the children of  Israel due to their negligence and ignorance to God’s factor in their journey. This therefore births some question I want you and I to answer with all sincerity, which are:

Are You Still In The Way?

Jesus is the only way and He said “I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened....(Prov 4:11-12)”, but my question is “hope you are still in that way?” The bible say in Prov.16:25; “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death”. So, turning from the way can be very dangerous, walking in this earthly wisdom can cause lifetime regrets.

WITH WHICH COMPASS ARE YOU TAKING YOUR JOURNEY?

David said “thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path (Psalms 119:105)” and Jesus said “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”, hence, the baton is now in thine hands.
The compass you choose will determine either you’ll get home early, late or never. You are the prophet of your life! Your consistent walk with God determines what you will become. You are the prophet of your destiny!

Before You Go!

Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6)”, probably you are not in the way (Jesus), or you are still on the fence (going in and out), come to Jesus today! He has the full script of your journey with him. Confess your sins, forsake those evil ways, tell him to cleanse you and ask for his grace to lead you on, because, only Him can lead you through, to the end (eternity). Jesus loves you.

Thanks a lot for your time. I do appreciate that. I expect to see you next time. Please share it, also, comments and/or ideas are welcome.
