How to Overcome Masturbation, Pornography and Sexual Sins as a Young Adult

Before you read this, it is my prayer that you see light enough to cause your total freedom in Jesus’ name (Amen).

I will begin this article by not being economical with the truth. It is sad that many teenagers and youths in our world today cry on their inside, pray, fast, teach and work in the house of God, yet there is still this sin they cannot let go. The oil of gladness in Hebrews 1:9 is a reality. Secret sin makes you sad and marriage or a relationship is not the cure to it. Confessing your sin every day too may not be a cure to it. Sexual sin takes you farther than you would want to stay. A man can manifest God yet be deep into sexual sin. Manifestation works with principles but when it comes to a matter of where the soul belongs, it is purity that counts and not the principles you know. This is why a man can silently watch pornography all night and yet minister heavily the following day or masturbate on Friday morning and yet minister and have people fall under the anointing at a vigil the same day.

You need to stop your fantasy and refuse to gratify worldly passions. One of the greatest deceits of the 21st century, is in portraying pornography as a form of entertainment. My purpose of this article is to expose some sugar coated lies around masturbation and pornography, and point out the reasons why they are indeed sins according to the Bible.

There is an increase in the number of pornographic websites, erotic content blogs and related materials. It is funny how these content are strategically targeted at teenagers and children. Sadly, if an individual gets addicted at the early age of 13 to 18, the yoke becomes stronger to break.

Sexual sin is a strong hold of the mind. The spirit behind it has influenced the thought of the individual that even if he doesn’t want to think of it, his mind naturally goes there. This explains Romans 6:16 which says: “Do you not know that when you continually offer yourselves to someone to do his will, you are the slaves of the one whom you obey, either [slaves] of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness (right standing with God)?”

This verse simply says that you are controlled by the spirit to which you yield.

Addictions generally are destructive, you deserve better than what porn has to offer. One thing about masturbation and pornography is that you get zapped out and frustrated. It’s not something you should joke with. Masturbation and pornography especially makes you loose your confidence, because you end up feeling guilty and dirty. And trust me, you don’t want to feel this way. So as not to feel this way, it’s better you get out of it and get help on time.

Here are recommended ways to help you overcome masturbation and pornography.

1. Avoid Privacy and Secrecy

Pornography and masturbation are diseases of isolation. Try as much as possible to avoid being alone. You end up falling into the trap of masturbation if you continue staying alone. Walk out of that trap, please.

2. Avoid Bad friends

To overcome masturbation and pornography, you must be ready to stop moving around with friends who are struggling with the same addictions. In 1st Corinthians 15:33, God’s word says “be not deceived; evil communications corrupt good manners”. Leave those friends who have a bad impact on your life. Associate with godly and morally upright friends. You deserve the best in life, and bad friends won’t give you that best. Associate with those who will help you break free by learning how to build spiritual and Profitable Friendships.

3. Don’t be Idle

Find something doing at all times. Remember the words of the scripture that says “an idle hand is the devil’s workshop”. When you’re are idle ,you begin to abhor different thought in your heart. So, get up and find something doing. Get busy, read your school books, get spiritual books and novels,you can get educative books too. I recommend Amazon. Com for different kind of books of interest. Hang out with friends of great value, learn a skill to maximize your time, involve in workout and just get something doing. With all of these, you realize gradually you’re breaking free from masturbation and pornography. It is also recommended that you to read books to maximise-time

4. Talk to a Spiritual Elder

It is often said that “you can’t have an elder around and get lost”. Talk to someone who is spiritually matured and you can confide in. You need to get the desired help you need. There are spiritual mentors around, counsellors and pastors that you can confide in. Walk up to them and tell them about your ordeal. I know its a shameful habit you don’t want anyone to know about,don’t worry about the shame, tell them about it. When you get the necessary help,no one will remember about it. They are more experienced about teenage age, and remember that teenagers are more liable to masturbation and pornography. And trust me, truly spiritual people keep their discussion with people private, you don’t need to be scared about them telling someone else. Talk to them so you can break free.

5. Talk to God about it

God is the most reliable person to help you out of your addiction. Talk to God in prayer and you’d see that He is always there to listen to and help you get out of it. No matter your past, God is ever ready for you - He only needs you to be ready too. In the words of the revered Apostle Arome Osayi, A sinning man will stop praying and a praying man will stop sinning”. By prayer, you are talking to God about it and true change comes through prayer.

It is necessary that you understand that masturbation, Pornography and every form of sexual sin begins a generational struggle of perversion. This means you must determine that your sons and daughters won’t know this struggle of perversion. They will be taught from a very early age about sex: its purpose, its requirements and its parameters. Failure to do this will make their lives to be totally filled with unbridled pleasure. The male children may begin to feel utter disregard for any woman who tried to love them and the females could become cold hearted and unbothered. Years of pornography, masturbation, and troves of sex partners steals not only your man/womanhood but your humanity.

One thing the devil hides from a man struggling with addiction is the fact that God can reach us anywhere! We can never go too far for God’s grace to reach us. This cycle of perversion stops with me! My sons will know my struggle but never experience it firsthand. What God has done and continues to do in my life is nothing short of a miracle. Where he’s brought me from still amazes me.

I am committed to breaking this cycle over my entire bloodline. And the journey is far from over but it has certainly been a catalyst for many others who are faced with the same struggles.


Chastity is not the same as virginity. It is a decision to stay pure irrespective of your past. We must learn to distinguish between the common and the normal. Immorality is common and not normal.
Sex is God’s design to be between a husband and his wife. It was designed by God to be IN marriage, not before or outside it.
A sexually pure generation is possible.

Get up. Begin to pace. Blast some worship music. Distract yourself with prayer. Do what you have to do to not feed that urge your attention because your attention is the fuel it needs. Whenever the urge comes, you must know that is not the time to mindlessly scroll through social media. Your adversary-the devil is very cunning so learn to handle it like a person of the Spirit. That is the time to be more *aware* of the Holy Presence inside, and around you.

Immediately, deliberately, fix the gaze of your heart on Jesus the Pillar of Strength. Open your mouth and begin to thank Him [yes] for the victory that is already yours; intentionally *saturate that atmosphere with God.

The flesh is powerful, but you are hosting Holy Fire.

Pornography

God has helped many people overcome the unhealthy addiction to pornography. Addiction to pornography causes an individual to self-doubt and hated oneself for doing it. After the last week being so God filled for me I have faith it's all over. Porn really messed me up, spiritually. Make sure not to rationalize it and sink back into it when those moments of weakness arise again because they will. We all have fell short of the Glory of God. We are all sinners and can only imagine the things in our past we're not proud of. But you've overcome this! That's something to be proud of. Glory to God in the Highest. Do not ever let your guard down.This is where the real struggle is. The devil knows you are trying (with God's help) to overcome so he puts you on the wagon and off the wagon to the point that you begin to hate yourself and feel that God can never use you because of what you are. Hearing stories like yours give me hope.

It is important to aim towards true repentance, but if you fall, don't believe the enemy's lies. The Lord commanded us to forgive our brothers up to 7 times 70 times - so He will obviously forgive us at least that many times, if he expects it of us (and most likely many more times, He will not turn anyone who is repentant away).

The amount of time you refrain from a sin that was previously loved isn't really the important thing. This is because it really cannot measure up to the new love for Christ. The important thing is the condition of our heart toward God. Eventually He wants to replace our unfaithful, harlotry-filled heart with one like His own. That is why it's important for us to look at Jesus, not ourselves ("beholding and reflecting like a mirror the glory of the Lord"). This does not permit you to live some kind of a double-life of sin and "Christianity". In fact, that's absolutely anti-gospel. However be persuaded of this very thing, that the One having begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6). 

Total Freedom

In the words of Pastor Daniel Olawande, "you cannot live in immorality and desire to enter into immortality. Your consecration determines your concentration. You cannot be sinning and expect divine genuine glory. You must understand that God does not manage vessels.

Masturbation and pornography are not achievements you can boast of. You need to break free from it before it breaks you. Get the needed help you need and become free from the trap. Break free from the trap because pornography is a trap from the devil to make you useless, and it’s originated from the pit of hell. 

Hallelujah! Jesus came down and already broke the chain that was latched on to you. Jesus has granted us freedom and that is the best feeling ever, with the guarantee of a clean mind and clean spirit. You break through every strongholds, destroy addictions and evil habits in Jesus' name.
