The Supernatural Manifestations of Prayer

Prayer is a means of communication with God. God wants us to communicate with Him because that shows our dependence on Him. It is a place where we build intimacy with God. It is a major ritual of success. Prayer makes the power of God available in all our endeavours.

The Supernatural Manifestations of Prayer by Akinjobi Oluwagbemisola

When you ask the question "Why Do We Pray?", it means that there are many reasons why people pray.

Read: I was born into a Pastor's family but didn't get a lot of things right about the Bible

1. It is an instruction to every believer

In Luke 18:1, Jesus spoke a parable unto His disciples, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint. Also, 1Thessalonian 5:17 says that we should pray without ceasing. The more we pray, the more we are not discouraged and the more we can accommodate the pictures God is showing us concerning our academics, our career, our finances or family affairs.

2. It is in our nature to pray

Prayer makes up our being and personality. It is who we are, there's a great result that unfolds when a believer prays!

3. Jesus, our Lord and savior has set an example which we follow

Luk 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. At every point in Jesus' life, we can see that He separates Himself to pray. He was able to bear man's sins because He prayed. His fears were crumbled in the place of prayer.

Life is Spiritual

A believer cannot afford to go through life like a headless chicken. Directions come in the place of prayer and spiritual warfare is won only in the place of prayer. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:12 that, " we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]". Our warfare is not carnal, so we can it afford to be ignorant or take it with levity.

How to live an Effective Prayer Life?

There are many obstructions in the mind of some believers which prevent them from praying or having an effective prayer life. However, certain things to know before going into prayers are that;

  • You are the righteousness of God. There's no condemnation for you, so you have every right to access all that Christ has made available for you through His death, burial and resurrection.
  • God is ever-willing to give you what you want, more than how much you desire to have it. 1John 5:14-15 says, "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him". This is our confidence when we pray!
  • Have expectations when you pray. Your expectation is your hope and your hope serves as a propeller to your faith. A person who prays without having a picture of what he wants might not be able to really grasp it when God shows it to Him. Always be with a world-sized reservoir of expectations anytime you pray.
  • Pray in the spirit. When you pray in the spirit, our spirit man prays. Romans 8:26 says, "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered". God takes over your spirit to pray for you by His Spirit. Isn't it awesome that we have the opportunity to have God pray for us by Himself?
  • Have a time set aside for personal devotion. However, this has no fixed time, a fixed duration or a fixed order like most people think. All you need to ensure is that your devotion consists of the study of God's word, worship and praise to God and prayers. We should note that these three components of a good devotion has no fixed order either, we should learn to trust God's spirit enough that He would direct us on which one to do first.

What Happens When We Pray?

  • Our eyes are open to see and we become much more enlightened when we pray. This is why Apostle Paul says, "Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints"
  • We download the wisdom of the spirit in prayers. James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. We know that God is willing already, we can tap into that wealth of wisdom in Him by praying.
  • A man who prays walks in the manifestation of God's power. A man who prays can see the deaf, dumb and crippled healed by his hands. He can see cancer fried up, demons cast out and break out of God's power because he spends time praying.

What Should Our Point of Action Be?

  • Resolve to make prayer a lifestyle.
  • Have a good devotional relationship with God.
  • Study the word of God.
