We live in a world (a system of influence) where almost everyone has disregard for labour. We live in a system where people believe it is foolishness to want to acquire wealth the right way. The system we find ourselves is that which at every point in time justifies the decision of people to engage in illegal practices.
Are believers not considered foolish when they refuse to alter the prices of goods and services in their companies? People would look at you in the face, and tell you what great mistake you're making because you refuse to sign the cheque, isn't it?
Do people not give excuses today why they engage in fraudulent practices such as cyber crimes, robbery, and all? What could be the reason for this? So as to gather wealth and live a life of affluence, not minding the consequences.
Should we envy these people? Should we follow them, and walk the same path with them? How should we live as believers in such a system as this? What should be our guiding principle? The book of Proverbs explains why it is necessary to follow the right path, and why labour is profitable. It is seen in the verse of Scripture below,
"Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase." (Proverbs 13:11).
It explains the very reason we should live differently from others who have not been begotten of God. This is the reason we can't forge the signature, alter the prices, dupe people of their money, or engage in any form of dishonest practice to acquire wealth.
This is because the wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished( gotten as a result of dishonesty, illegal practices, lies, will not last forever. It will some day be taken away because it was never theirs, and was not acquired the right way) but he the gathereth by labour shall increase(that is honest in his dealings, and acquires his wealth by all honesty and transparency will only continue to prosper. He will be forever blessed, and will be at peace, increasing greatly in that which he has).
Dear believer, it is evident, isn't it? That we are to follow the right path; that as believers, we should be honest in our dealings, doing away with all form of dishonesty, for the one who through labour gathers wealth shall surely increase. The Lord help us all, and may this word dwell richly in our hearts. Amen.
Thought for the day: Are you honest in your dealings? Do you acquire wealth by dishonest means? You're to through honest means gather unto yourself wealth.
