As You have received Christ: Gospel Today Devotional - 3rd October, 2023

If one claims to know the right thing, he should do it, right? If one claims to know that lying is wrong, certainly such a person should not lie, should he? The answer is no, and that's because if he is so convinced about lying being wrong, and then does lie intentionally, and consistently, it only implies that he may never have been actually convinced.

As You have received Christ: Gospel Today Devotional - 3rd October, 2023

Let's have another illustration, let's say one is to travel, and he is to go through a certain route so as to arrive at his destination, you would agree with me that if he truly knows the route to his destination, he should take no other route, right? If truly he knows his route, he should travel in that route.

The above illustrations are to point our attention as believers to a very important truth written in scripture. The apostle Paul in one of his epistles, particularly that to the saints at Colosse, made a very important statement of which I believe everyone who claim to know the Lord should adhere to, and the statement is captured below,

"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him".(Colossians 2:6)

As to why he said this in particular, we may be unable to explore in today's devotional, but we however cannot deny the fact that this statement is a very important one. Isn't it amazing to know most times that many of us do not really let it show that we have received Christ?

We sometimes, or most times even through our actions fail to show that of a truth we have received him. The scripture says if any be in Christ, he is a new creation, and that old things are passed away with everything new, isn't it? (2 Corinthians 5:17). That's very true. It is important therefore that we do not only profess to know him, and to have received him, but to show of a truth that, and that through our lives that we have indeed known, and received him. The question then is how do we let it show? It is by walking in him.

The apostle Paul made this clear in the verse above, and this I would preach as an exhortation to you today just like the apostle Paul did to the saints in Colossians, that as ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord (have come to know him, and accepted him as Lord, and Saviour, and at the same time filled with the knowledge of him),  so walk ye in him ( you should let it show by living by his commands, holding on to the truth you have known, not compromising for any reason whatsoever, and ever living your life all to the glory of his name). May the Lord help us hearken to that which the Lord has communicated to our hearts in Jesus' name. Amen.

Thought for the day: Let the life you live, and the things you do prove beyond any shadow of doubt to those within, and outside that you have received Christ as you claimed, and that you are walking in him as well.
