3 Things You Should Know about the Mercy of God

God's mercy does not mean the forgiveness of our sins only. Although forgiveness is a vital part of that mercy, it is not the only thing that "Mercy" entails. The Bible in 1 Peter 2:9-10,says that we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation and a peculiar people who should show forth the praises of God who called us out of darkness into his marvellous light. Verse 10 specifically says that in the past, we were not of God, but now, we are the people of God who have obtained mercy. This scripture simply explains that the mercy of God is a tangible force that lifts us in our Christian journey by activating God's goodness in our activities.

Here is a list of things you should know about God's Mercy

1. The Mercy of God is on you as a Believer

The Bible in Luke 1:50, tells us that God's mercy is on those who fear God from one generation to another. This means that for as long as you are a God-fearing believer, God's mercy covers you and all of yours. God's mercy is a sure and safe haven that keeps us from being consumed by the forces of the world.

2. We wear God's mercy like a Crown

Again, the writer in Psalm 103:4 talks about God who redeems us from destruction and yet, crowns us with loving kindness and tender mercies. By this, it means we are not beggarly with God's mercy. We come into His royalty and automatically prosper with the mercy of God as Kings.

3. God is the father of mercies

The Bible in 2nd Corinthians 1:3 says, "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort". No man looks to a fellow man for tangible mercy. All lasting mercies come from the father of mercies.

What can the Mercy of God do?

  • Salvation

It's by God's mercies that a man can receive salvation. No man can of his own accord decide to get saved unless God's mercy finds him. No works of flesh can get a man his salvation either. The Book of Titus 3:5,"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost."

  • Healing and Workings of Miracles

Matthew 20:30 says, "And, behold, two blind men sitting by the wayside, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David." These blind men realised the fact that healing and other workings of miracles come only when his anointing to heal comes upon them and this could have only been made possible by the mercies of Christ.

  • Preservation

A man is protected and preserved in all ways when God's mercy is upon him. Psalm 40:11 says,"Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord: let thy loving kindness and thy truth continually preserve me." It takes the mercy of God to preserve a man in this destructive world we are in.

  • Favour and Prosperity

Ezra 9:9 says,"For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.". It takes God's mercies for the hearts of Kings to be open to a man. It takes God's mercy to make the visage of a believer change and make people start giving to him. It takes God's mercy for you to break out into a new level of finances.

Ministry is obtained, made effective and productive

As much as going into ministry seems sweet and full of roses, God's mercy is the way by which it must prosper and be established. Just as we received the ministry, we must receive God's mercy in order that we might not faint.(2 Corinthians 4:1).

What is the Response of a Believer to God's Mercy?

Our response to God's mercies as believers is to hope in it. Psalm 33:18 says,"Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy"

We are to continually hope in that mercy that no matter what the economy is saying, His mercy is sure to prosper us. To keep hoping that no matter the insecurity in the nations around, His mercy is sure to preserve us. Daily, daily hoping that no matter how sick a person may be, we have received a ministry to heal such people and see them established in the kingdom of God.
