How can one decide to give himself for those who are not worthy? How can one decide to go through so much pain, and suffering all because he had to redeem another from a case himself knew nothing about? It could have been easily justified if we said that they both committed the crime, and one of them decided to give himself a ransom for the other person.
Let me ask you a question, if you were told to give yourself up so that one who stole would be made free, will you do that? That would be a very difficult thing to do, right? How can you who did nothing pay the price for one who committed the offence? That sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? It would have been something different if you were suffering for an offence you committed but now the case is different, and of course no man will be willing to suffer for a crime he didn't commit.
Today, we shall be looking at that which the Lord did for us even as at the time we didn't merit it. The Lord loved us even before we came to know about it, and he still does love us even now that we are in him. Let's see the verses of scripture below,
"For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."(Romans 5:6,8).
Let me quickly make an illustration for you to see. If a woman claims to love a man because of that which he has such as his cars, money, houses, etc, will you really say such a person loves the man? Because if those things are taken away, the so called love will be taken away as well. What do you say of a woman who loved the man while he was nobody, and had nothing? That would be true love demonstrated right there, don't you agree?
The same thing the scripture is saying right here, that when we were still in our fallen state with no one to come to our rescue; while we still lived in guilt, and shame; while it was that our wretchedness was so conspicuous, it was even at that time that the Lord gave himself for us. It was at this time that he demonstrated his love to us.
Not when we were at our best. Not when we were pure, and all righteous but when we were still sinners. And if God so loved us then that Christ died for us, how much more now that we are in him? If Christ gave himself for us then, he would much more give himself for us now. I want you to glory in this, that God loved you, and demonstrated that love as we have seen today before you knew it, and he still loves you even now. May this comfort your hearts today. Amen.
Thought for the day: God's love for you didn't just begin now, it started when you didn't even know, and he still loves you now.
