The Excellency of His Power: Gospel Today Devotional - 22nd November, 2022

It is very easy to trust someone you know can look after you, and possibly protect you, isn't it? That's just the way it is, and the very fact that you cannot just be treated anyhow becomes another thing to be joyful about, why? Because at every point in time, there's the confidence, and assurance you have, not because you're strong in yourself but because there's someone on whose strength you depend, and that his strength does not fail. Praise God.

The Excellency of His Power: Gospel Today Devotional - 22nd November, 2022

Let's say you have an heavyweight champion as your guardian, you would agree with me that if anyone does anything to you, your source of confidence will be the fact that your guardian is an heavyweight champion, and that he would deal with such a person. And if you're the type who abuse power, and makes use of such privilege in a negative way, you may most times get yourself into trouble intentionally without being afraid. This however is the point, that it gives you this confidence that doesn't make you fret or worry. Praise God.

It is equally important to understand that for the believer, we have one who is our sure confidence, and on whom we so diligently trust. The Lord for the believer is his trust, his confidence. The study today will reveal to us the excellency of God's power; how that those who trust in him remain firm regardless. The passage of scripture under consideration is seen below.

"They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. [2] As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even for ever".(Psalm 125:1,2).

Why was this written? How come those who trust the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed? First let's understand that as much as this is an encouragement to the believer, it is equally a reminder that we all as believers need to trust the Lord completely without any iota of doubt. Coming to the question, why those who trust in the Lord are like mount Zion that cannot be removed. It is because God has the power to keep those who trust in him. He is so powerful that he never will allow those who put their trust in him to be removed, but just like mount Zion which abides forever, they also will abide forever. Praise God.

The second verse talks about the fact that the Lord himself is with his people. He is with those who trust in him, just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so also does the Lord surround his people with so much power, always watching over those that are his, to protect them, shield them, guide them, etc. He never will let anything get to them neither will he let any harm come near them. He is ever with his people to keep them secure. Glory to God.

This is coming to you, and I today, that as believers, our trust should be in God alone, and the one in whom we put our trust is able to help, keep, and sustain us, and also knowing that he is with us, and surrounds us just as the mountain surrounds Jerusalem, we are to be joyful. In this we are confident, in this we are comforted, why? Because the Lord Jehovah is our trust, and we who have put our trust in him shall not be removed. Amen. May this words comfort your hearts today. Amen.

Thought for the day:

The Lord is ever with those who put their trust in him, and they shall not be removed who trust in him.
