God Does Not Change: Gospel Today Devotional - 20th December, 2023

 KNOWING GOD SERIES

Let me begin by asking you a question, can I? Are you still the same person you used to be many years ago? Considering how young, and vibrant you were many years ago, are you still that way now? The answer certainly is no. The truth remains that as long as you continue to live on the earth's surface, change will be inevitable. You were once a child who could barely even stand to his or her feet. You grew into a teenager, a young adult, and then an old man or woman. Even if you are yet to experience this, you will someday. You cannot escape it. You will definitely change.

God Does Not Change: Gospel Today Devotional - 20th December, 2023

Aren't you always surprised when you meet someone whom you have not seen in a very long time only to discover that many things have changed about the person? You have been there before, right? This either leaves you amazed or so much disappointed because change as it were could either be negative or positive. The truth remains that change will continue to occur, and men will continue to change but your prayer as well as mine should be that if we must change, it must be in ways that bring glory to God.

Today, we shall continue in our series, knowing God, and prior to this time, we have said so many things about God and have come to understand many things about God as well. I want to believe that this knowledge that we have come to acquire through this study will help us relate with God better than we ever did. I trust the Lord to minister to your heart today as well as he does to mine. Amen. The passage of scripture under consideration is seen below,

"For I am the Lord , I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed" ( Malachi 3:6).

Here, we see the Lord speaking concerning himself. Here we see the Lord revealing to us that which we ought to know concerning him. Here, we see the Lord making known to us the fact that first he is the Lord, and that there's none else aside him. And he says that the distinctive thing about him is that he does not change. That is why he is the Lord. That is why none can be compared to him. This is what he wants us to know.

This means that if he was God yesterday, he remains God today, and he remains God tomorrow. The scripture talks about Jesus as the same yesterday, today, and forever( Hebrews 13:8), and the scripture affirms that Jesus is the express image of the invisible God (Hebrews 1:3, Colossians 1:15), which means that if Jesus who is the image of the invisible God does not change, it tells us about the Father too (God); the fact that God does not change.

God is the only one who does not change. His person does not change. His words does not change. His attributes do not change. What he was yesterday, he is today, and what he is today, he would be tomorrow. He does not grow tired or weary, he does not go back on his promises. God does not change. He has ever been the same, he is still the same God we have always known, and will forever remain the same. This is God. This is who he is. This is the nature that he has. God cannot change from being God. He is forever God. As a result, we are to look to him at all times, trusting him to remain ever true to his words, and promises; seeking his face for help and also have this belief that God will remain God, and those who trust him will not be put to shame because he will not change. May the Lord bless his word in our hearts. Amen.

Thought for the day

Men change with the passing of time, but God has been the same way before time, he is still the same in time, and will remain God after time must have passed. He does not change.
