How Shall We Escape?: Gospel Today Devotional - 12th January, 2024

The word of God comes so clear to you and I that he has prepared a way of escape for us, and that is found in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. The scripture records that God sent his only Son into the world so as to save men from their sins, isn't it?(Matthew 1:21). And even up till now, the Lord is still calling men to himself, and whosoever shall call on his name shall be saved. The scripture commands that as believers, we go preach the gospel as well such that all who hear and receive will be saved.

How Shall We Escape?: Gospel Today Devotional - 12th January, 2024

Let's take this example, suppose you provide everything a child needs such that he doesn't lack any good thing and the child still decides to steal, would it be your fault or his? Of course you provided all that he needed but the decision to steal was his, and the consequence for his action will be borne by him alone. He may be shot, imprisoned, and all and no one will be blamed for it.

Today, by the grace of God, we shall see a very important truth of scripture. How that the rejection of that which is offered to people could could be very consequential. The Lord himself has made his grace available to all and no one has an excuse whatsoever. Although while this has been made available, not all are partakers yet. The passage of scripture under consideration is seen below,

"For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; [3] How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him". (Hebrews 2:2-3).

One thing that should be understood is that God is not wicked neither is he partial. He gives to everyone and makes the same privilege available to everyone as well. The scripture says whoever believes in the Lord would be saved. Please take note of the word, whoever. This is not limited to a few persons alone but as many as would call upon the name of the Lord and believe in him. The scripture also says, that as many as received him, he gave power to become the sons of God. Please note again, as many as believed; it means as many as possible. God does not regard the person of man with regards to being superior to the other but he treats everyone so equally.

If God in his mercy made a way of escape in turning back to him in repentance, don't you think men should gladly accept that which he has offered to them? Also, if there are benefits to accepting that which he has provided and also consequences for rejecting that which he offers them, do you think he should be blamed for the decisions men make? He already gave the conditions and it would be best if between life and death, we all pick life.

The question is, if a decision is made to ignore or neglect this offer, how shall one escape the consequences for rejection? It's a law. If you do this, this is the result and even if you do that, that is the result. Except men turn and seek the Lord in repentance, they will not be free from the consequences of their decisions. The word of the Lord comes to someone reading this today. An offer has been given, will you accept or reject? And if you do reject, how will you escape the consequences? The Lord cause these words to sink into your heart in Christ's name. Amen.

Thought for the Day

The Lord calls to come, will you accept or reject? How shall you escape if you choose to reject the offer he gives? Choose wisely.
