The Bible records in the book of Ephesians, that we are saved by grace through faith, and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works so that no man would take the glory for himself [paraphrased, Ephesians 2:8, 9]. Also in the book of John, it was recorded that the reason God gave his only begotten Son was that he so loved the world and that by giving his Son, anyone who believed in him will not perish but possess the life he gives, which is eternal [John 3:16]. In Matthew 1:21, it was recorded that the reason for which Christ would be born as communicated to us is for the salvation of his people. If this is so much important, what then is salvation?
In plain words, salvation in this context is the new birth experience. The scripture in John 3 records the very words of our Lord Jesus where he said to Nicodemus that except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. That is it. The new birth experience; is that of total surrender and consecration to God. A life of complete transformation, and turning unto God through repentance. A life of believing, and confessing; believing that Jesus is Lord, and confessing that of a truth he is. A translation from death to life, and from darkness to light. If salvation is thus explained as this, how then can it be obtained? Let's see the passage of scripture below:
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12).
Having known that when people come to believe in the one whom God declared as the only source to him, and confess him as Lord, people would be saved and that believing is how that is achieved also not neglecting the fact that this experience is a gift from God to men, we can rightly say that salvation is obtained by grace through faith. Faith in who? In Christ Jesus; in his finished work of the cross, faith in him as the Son of God through whom all sins are pardoned, and forgiven, faith in his atoning sacrifice.
Some people say that salvation comes as a result of that which we do (works), but that's a contrary opinion to scripture. Scripture says it is the gift of God, and not a product of works, why? So men won't boast since no man can indeed save himself. Is there any other source of salvation aside from the Son of God, Jesus Christ? This may be the question in someone's heart today. The answer is no. How so? The scripture under consideration declares it.
According to the written word of God, there is no salvation in any other except Jesus. The scripture makes this clear. There's no salvation in self-righteousness, no salvation in some other gods, why? Because there is no other name under heaven whereby we must be saved except the name of Jesus, the only begotten Son of God. Jesus is the true source of salvation, and faith in his name gives the new birth experience (salvation). Let's continue to teach this to others, and as believers, let not this truth depart from us all. The Lord grants us sufficient understanding. Amen.
