Shade had boarded a bus going to Lagos. She was to go see her fiancé who at the time had just gained employment in one of the firms in Lagos. Unknown to her, the people on the bus, including the driver were agents sent out to kidnap people for rituals.
However, in the course of the journey, she noticed that the driver had taken another route different from the usual one, and this made her suspicious. Luckily for her, she saw a checkpoint ahead of them, and immediately after they got there, she called for help. The policemen rescued her from these evil men, and she got to her fiancé in peace.
What if Shade decided to keep silent? What if she never called for help? There would have been no one to deliver her, right? Perhaps she would have been kidnapped, and eventually killed, don't you think? The hypothetical story above is to help you understand the verse of scripture below,
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13).
Just like Shade in the story above, it is also important for believers and unbelievers alike to understand this truth, that anyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. What does this mean? Whosoever ( anyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, background, etc) shall call upon the name of the Lord ( will reach out willingly to the Lord for help), shall be saved ( will surely be delivered, and helped by the Lord).
The verse below can be applied thus; first to unbelievers, that anyone who through faith confesses and believes that Christ is Lord and Saviour shall be saved ( delivered, begotten of him, and given the power to become the son of God).
The second application is to believers, that whoever will call upon the name of the Lord his God in times of trouble shall be saved ( delivered, and greatly helped by the Lord). Glory to God. The word of the Lord, therefore, comes today to exhort the believer and unbeliever alike to call upon the name of the Lord for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Will you call?
