5 Lessons from the life of Delilah

In Judges 16: 4-6, we read that Samson fell in love with a woman in the valley of So’rek whose name was Delilah. So, the lords of the Philistines approached her and said: ‘Trick’ him and find out what gives him strength and how we can overpower him and tie him and subdue him. For this we will each give you 1,100 silver pieces.”

The story of Delilah and her relationship with one of the anointed of God is just a tragedy in Christendom then. Even though Samson was able to crush all the Philistines who were trying to subdue him, the glorious life of a nazirite of God was cut short with them.

Delilah was a Philistine woman, who lived in the valley of So’rek. She can be described as synonymous to being a treacherous woman while some concluded that she was just like Jazzebel, a prostitute. Delilah allowed herself to be used with bribe to coax Samson into telling the secret of his power and his strength which lies in his hair. Although, Samson confided in Delilah as a partner of his and told her his secret, Delilah used it as an advantage to take him down for the Philistines.

Everything would not have happened if Samson was not carried away by love. The end of a glorious destiny was determined in minutes, on Delilah’s lap. God gave Samson an unmatched strength, but falling in love with a destiny killer killed his purpose in life.

So many people now, are with a Delilah. Delilah in this context does not necessarily mean a woman. In this present day, Delilah can be a woman or a man. Anyone who is allowing the devil to bribe him or her into becoming a stumbling block for another fellow can be likened to a Delilah.

“And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and where with thou mightiest be bound to afflict thee. And Samson said unto her, if they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.” (Judges 16:6-7)

Samson was not so cautious with his words, which I can sum it all sum to love, one that was not from God.

The powerful men are falling very easily, not because they don’t have the power of God growing and blooming in them, but because they lack some things which are;

3. Stay Focused

Many Nazirites are being shaken by Delilah because they have lost the focus of how, where and why they started. They have forgotten the instructions of God to them, just like Samson. They just want to enjoy what ‘life’ really is. They thought everything will be just for a moment while they eventually meet themselves on the ground with the Philistines forever. You have to choose who you are for, and focus on the person squarely not allowing anything to separate you from the love of the one who has called you from darkness into His marvelous light.

4. Train Your Tongue

Your tongue must not be loose if you want to be free from any Delilah like personality. In our world today, many powerful men and children of called claim to be unshaken but they speak more than they grasp and see. A lot of powerful men of God are nowhere to be found these days because while thinking and claiming they are engaging in mere chats with people, they have given out all about them. The warnings and directions that are meant to be strictly personal to them, they share it all with people they thought are close to them.

As a child of a God, you really need to be cautious of what you say, how you do things and who you allow in your circle. Don’t become people’s enemy by being strict and unapproachable, neither should you rely on being their friend completely to the extent of saying everything you ought to keep to yourself and your family.

5. Build a Lifestyle of Contentment

To be content means to be satisfied with what you have at the moment, while praying to God for other things you need. When you have built a lifestyle of contentment as a believer, no Delilah will just find their way to you anyhow, it all starts from contentment. If you are not satisfied with what God has given you, a Delilah will show you how to get more and before you know it, you are in their captivity already.

If you are a married man or woman, if you lack ability to be satisfied with the woman or man God has given you and grow with him or her while training yourself and reflecting on what you need to keep up or change in your relationship, you will open up your door for a Delilah to show you how to manage your home outside God’s manual for you.

As a man of God, if you do not cherish humble beginnings and you are not ready to endure the stage God has placed you now, while trusting him to enlarge your coast in it, you can easily open up your heart for a Delilah to lead you astray to the wide road which leads to destruction.

A Delilah won’t force her way into your heart, just as Satan won’t force his way into your heart. Satan is there to advice you, it is your choice to choose either to follow his advice or rebuke him and direct him to where he belongs (under your feet).

Delilah can come in any form, just to make you see things in another perspective different from God’s. Delilahs can come inform of an helper to show you how reliable they are, it only takes the holy spirit to discern what their intention is, all in the place of prayer.

Delilahs are deadly and treacherous, their only aim is to coax, overpower, tie and sudue a powerful nazirite into their nest in order to satisfy themselves.

The only way to identify them is to pray and strengthen your bound with the holy spirit, be cautious, know when, how and where to speak, treat your personal direction and instruction from God for your steps in life as personal. Don’t be carried away by nice actions of people, this  doesn’t mean God won’t send men to help you, but you can always discern who is for God and who is not, by the holy spirit, working together with your instinct.

Shalom!
