A Needful Reminder: Gospel Today Devotional - 7th January, 2023

Often as a result of our dealings with men as believers, we have come to think God is the same as men. Many times as a result of our encounter with men, we have come to believe that God operates the same way as men, and so we approach him from such a standpoint.

A Needful Reminder: Gospel Today Devotional - 7th January, 2023

You see, men have a track record of saying things they may end up not doing. This is common in our everyday lives, isn't it? Yes, of course. The father promises to get his child a gift but never does that. Even in relationships sometimes, one's spouse may offend him/her because of a failed promise. These, and many more are some of the things consistent with the nature of men.

Until we start seeing God differently, and not compare him to men who fail to keep their words, we will continue to doubt him, and doubt his ability to keep his words and to bring what he says to pass in our lives. This scripture however is to help us understand that no matter what men may do, God can never be compared to a man. Let's examine the scripture below:

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it ? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?". (Numbers 23:19).

The scripture here begins by stating a fact; *God is not a man*. It is that simple. That is the first thing we need to know and hold on to as believers in our dealing with the Eternal, Supreme Being. He is not a man; God is God, and should not in any way be compared to a man.

Why is this important? It is important to know first of all that *God is not a man* because such knowledge helps us understand the fact that God cannot act or behave like men. Little wonder the scripture in the succeeding statements points out the fact that because he is not a man nor the son of man, he cannot, and will not lie; neither will he repent of lying or deceiving you because he will not lie to you in the first place.

If he says a thing, he will do it and be assured he will make it good (fulfill it or bring it to pass). He will not say to you I am sorry, I wasn't thinking straight when I made that promise. He wouldn't say he just wanted to pull your legs. As believers, let us move from the point of wanting to approach God based on our dealings with men. We can't get the best that way. God is not a man. The Lord bless his word in your heart. Amen.

Thought for the day: Until we begin to see God for who he truly is, accepting that, unlike men, he will not lie, and neither will he fail to fulfill his words, we will continue to doubt not just him but his ability to fulfill his words in our lives. God is not a man!
