If someone told you that you could get rich just because you trusted him, how would you feel? Imagine he said, "I know you have been this way for a while now, and it's as though you need a change in your life, but that change would only come if you can trust me to bring you the change you need. Just trust me". In that case, trusting the person won't be a problem, would it?
We will by the grace of God be looking into the scripture today, and in line with the illustration above. Shall we look at the verses of scripture below?
"Thus saith the Lord ; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord . [7] Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord , and whose hope the Lord is. [8] For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit". (Jeremiah 17:5,7,8).
From the verses of scripture, we can see clearly that there are two categories of people, aren't they? Those who trust in men, that is, make flesh their arms, and their hearts are far from God; the other category is the set of people who trust the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
Similarly, aside from the fact that there are two kinds of persons, it is also evident that there are blessings and curses apportioned to them based on who they trust. First, we have to understand that for the first category, the scripture says they are cursed, why? Because they put their confidence in man, and their heart is not with the Lord. This is a reminder from the Lord through his word that to trust a man, depend on him, and not on God is futile. It will only bring disappointment and pain.
This is our focus, however, that those who trust the Lord and put their hope in him are blessed. They will not be disappointed, the Lord will at all times reward them with blessings untold; just like a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads its roots by the river, with its leaf being green, and shall not be dry, nor barren. Isn't this amazing?
As we conclude this today, I leave you with something to meditate upon; if not trusting the Lord has a reward, and if trusting him also has got a reward, will you try to decide whether to trust the Lord or not? The Lord help us all. Amen.
Thought for the Day
It pays to trust the Lord for blessed is that man whose trust is in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
